1954 01 04 Elvis records I'll Never Stand In Your Way and It Wouldn't Be The Same (Without You) at Sun Studios in Memphis
1954 05 15 Elvis joined Bond's group at the Hi Hat on South Third Street in Memphis for an audition. Elvis went to the audition with then girlfriend Dixie Locke and sang two songs with the band...but didn't get the job. Elvis later revealed that Bond told him to stick with driving a truck, because he would "never make it as a singer." Less than two months later Elvis' recorded his first Sun single, "That's All Right." Bond would later joke that he'd been "the only person to ever fire Elvis." A couple of years after the rejection, on route to Hollywood to film "Jailhouse Rock," Elvis reportedly said to confidant George Klein, "I wonder what Eddie Bond thinks now. Man, that sonofabitch broke my heart."

1954 07 05 Elvis, Scotty Moore and Bill Black records That's All Right Mama, Harbour Lights and I Love You Because
1954 07 06 Elvis, Scotty Moore and Bill Black records Blue Moon Of Kentucky. Sam Phillips gave a copy of the record to Dewey Phillips at WHBQ. Phillips promised to play That's all right mama the next day.
1954 07 07 Dewey Phillips plays That's all right mama in his " Red Hot and Blue show. After numerous phonecalls, Dewey ends up playing the song 14 times that night. Eventually he gets hold of Elvis and makes the first radio intervie with him.
