1971 01 16 Elvis receives the price as one of the 10 most outstanding young man in America. This particular honor was the only award that Elvis ever received in person. It was very special to Elvis, because he felt that it was a rare recognition of him as a man rather than a performer, and the trophy he received was taken along during all of his subsequent travels. Elvis was nominated for the award by former Shelby County sheriff and "Memphis Mafia" member Bill Morris. The keynote speaker at the awards ceremony was future president and then United Nations Ambassador appointee George Bush.
