The traditional form of Haiku consists of three lines of 5, 7 and 5 syllables respectively. Because of the differences in structure between Japanese and English, we occidentals have taken some liberties with the traditional format and have developed what is called "Free Form haiku," which does not adhere so strictly to the traditional format. The whole idea is to have fun with it! Here are some examples of haiku relating to that highest of subjects - cats! These poems are all over the net, forwarded in mailing lists, and found almost everywhere there are cat lovers. Take a look, and try your hand at haiku. It's really easy and fun!
You never feed me.
The rule for today
Grace personified.
The mighty hunter
Terrible battle.
Small brave carnivores
Oh no! The Big One
Humans are so strange.
