Yahoo!GEOCITIES
Yahoo swallowed Geocities a year ago and as far as I can tell... there's no sign of indigestion. Access and search are better but now we are part of a VERY large Internet portal service, so it's easier to be overlooked by visitors.

Thanks to the quality and diversity of our community members' pages, we still offer a wide range of personal interest and help-filled pages for people visiting our neighborhoods.

I am glad to see that Yahoo continues to support our efforts and improve our tools to create a unique family of professional and amateur (meaning: we do it for LOVE not money) pages.

Okay, I just fell off the soapbox...

If you found anything helpful or interesting, please take a moment to send me a comment, even if it's just a 'Hi! I was here'.

Thanks!

Better Way To Communicate

"Let's Get Ready To Rumble..."

You may not be aware, but there is a major battle taking place on the internet in the Instant Messenger Arena. Among the contenders are a 500 lb. gorilla and a little chimp in the messenger industry, AOL and Yahoo!, and a lesser known company call Odigo.
(NOTE: Prodigy has adopted the Odigo messenger!).

All 3 want to be the one you use as you browse the web or communicate with friends and family. And it's not that they think their program is the best, it is all about who is going to have their advertisements appearing on your desktop as you browse. As always, it's about money. (Big Money!)

The problem (for AOL) is this new messenger's ability to incorporate your AOL Buddy/Yahoo Friend List and sign on to either service so your old friends know you are on-line. My concern and amusement revolve around the reactions of AOL to this new upstart messenger from Odigo. For the last few months, AOL has been playing a cat and mouse game, tweaking their service to make it impossible for Odigo users to sign on to the 'GREAT & ALL POWERFUL" aol. To my knowledge, Yahoo! has decided to allow it's users easier access (most of the time) to their system.

Why are the other messenger services worried? Read on my friends...

Odigo

The new Odigo Messenger is a great program:

  • It has all the normal messenger features
(Friend List, Instant Contact, Search, AND the new Voice Chat)

But it goes beyond those with additional features:

  • It allows users to browse the internet together (Confused? Read on...)
  • You are able to view current Odigo visitors AT ANY Website
  • You can post notes for other Odigo users AT ANY Website
(They remain viewable until you signoff)
  • You can chat in an Odigo users chatroom AT ANY Website (Getting the picture?...)
  • You can change the look by alternate skins (available in my 'Related Links')
  • And more features are coming...

That is why for the past few months AOL has been reconfiguring the access to instant messenger, to thwart users of a new messenger by Odigo from signing on through their messenger to AOL system.

So join the fight against 'Another Online Loser!' and get a better messenger service at the same time by downloading and using Odigo Messenger!

"Long live the better mouse trap!"

Sorry Yahoo! but Odigo Messenger is better...
