Website Navigation
Consistency in designing pages for any site, allows visitors to become comfortable with the pages, and navigate to any area with ease. The new interface was designed to provide this environment.
The 'Site Links' and 'Related Links' use a short javascript to navigate around my site and the web.
By doing this, it's possible to combine an unlimited number of links, all activated from a single line location. If java and active content are disabled in your browser, you will see a HTML list of 'Site Links'.
You don't have to use this method because these pages also contain normal HTML tag links (underlined) to access the information.
On my full-screen pages, you will see button arrays that will link you to my other pages, or open an e-mail note using your default mail program.
You can also link from some pictures on certain pages. If the image is linked to a location, you will see the mouse pointer change to a hand pointing up, and additional information may appear in a pop-up box.
Read the 'Navigation Aides' in the sidebar for other navigation options.
Most full-screen HTML pages rely on links to navigate from page to page. Then Frames came along, allowing multiple HTML pages to be viewed at the same time. GREAT! . . . Not so fast . . . Frame pages can take a loooooong time to download. Also, not all browsers support Frames. And many people don't like Frames because it is possible to Frame someone else's page to look like part of your site! Find out more about Frames.
Another alternative is to open a second window. Read about floating windows.
With the increased implementation of Java and Active-X applets, it is now possible to do more than just jump from page to page. You can access and use full-featured programs over an internet connection or use small javascripts to make your site more intelligent and flexible.
Most of my pages have scripts on them. They are my preferred method of linking pages. There are also a few pages that demonstrate more ability on a small scale:
Floating a menu in seperate window gives you full-screen viewing window, while maintaining a seperate window of links to various locations. The floating menu is toggled, front to back, by using the 'Alt+Tab' keys.
Internet Explorer may give warnings about long script loads.(IGNORE Them!) Netscape will load full-screen windows!?? You can resize them to suit your taste.
Web Remote is a new navigation tool, a Remote Control for my site and the rest of the web. When you see the symbol, you can access the remote control window from there.
