The 18 year old mother grew up in Tanjung Putting's Reserve. She was brought there as an orphan. Because of her age she stays out in the forest most of the time and doesn't come in for the banana feedings, so it was a real treat when she came into the camp with her 2 week old baby. I like the log in the photo because she was very particular where she stopped to breast feed her baby. I slowly walked up to her and much to everyone's surprise she let me touch her and the head of her baby. I calmly talked to her and showed her my camera and slowly proceeded to start snapping shots with a 60mm macro lens. She looked up at me and I looked at her and then she looked at the baby as if she were the proudest first time mother in the world. I was so awestruck by the emotion I almost forgot to snap the pictures. After we finished admiring her new baby, she walked back into the forest and wasn't seen again the rest of our trip.  I think this is the most emotional animal interaction I have ever been involved in.
