FavoritesThe question was: "What's your favorite album drumming-wise?", and here are the results:
(What's the Story) Morning Glory? - 15 Oasis' drumming is straight and simple: Basic rock beats mixed in with a lot of 60's drumming and sound. After Definitely Maybe, Oasis grew more mature and so did the drumming, so it was natural for Tony McCarol, who wasn't a very good drummer to get fired. A new, talented one was recruited by Noel, a drummer who liked to swing the left hand for the snare high up and who was very fond of the double-bass drum and the crash-ride: Alan "Whitey" White. It was an excellent move by the chief, because Alan gave great drumming on both of the albums with him. Just take "Don't Look Back In Anger", "Cast No Shadow", "Magic Pie", "All Around the World" and more for example, there's some kick-ass drumming on those songs. Bottom line, Alan rules, and Tony pretty much sucks. |
Opinion PollThe question was: "On which album does Noel display best his writing skills?", and here are the results:
Be Here Now - 9 Noel Gallagher can write, Noel Gallgher can definitely write. His sheer genious of simplicity in melodies and harmony leaves many young songwriters and fans with their mouths wide open. You can see how Noel grows up music-wise as he writes more songs. On Defnitely Maybe, it was the standard plain-rock songs more than ever, and when (WTS)MG? came out you could see he's gotten more mature when it comes both to lyrics and music. What's amazing about Be Here Now is how Noel managed to take DM and MG, mix them up, reshape them and come up with a totally new album which is actually the two first ones just in a different form. What's even more amazing is that you voted that the best Oasis songs are on this recycled album, which prooves once and for all that Noel's writing skills are indisputeable. |
FavoritesThe question was: "What's your favorite soccer team in England?", and here are the results:
Manchester City - 4 As you can see from this week's question, I've totally run out of ideas for what to ask every time... Help!!! But don't worry for the next couple of weeks I've thought of something that will hold. This week, as expected, most of you like Manchester's soccer teams (Oasis are from there). Noel, Liam, and Guigs are Manchester City fans, Alan is a Charlton Athletic fan and Bonehead is a Manchester United fan. |
Opinion PollThe question was: "Will 'the Masterplan' CD be a comeback for Oasis in America?", and here are the results:
Yes - 16 Oasis' debut album, "Definitely Maybe", had a huge success in the United Kingdom, their home. However, in the United States, barely anyone even heard of it, and it did not sell well. Oasis did pick up some loyal fans then, but the average citizen has not heard of Oasis at the time. When Oasis' second album, "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?", came out a year later, it took the world by surprise and was successful all around the world, selling over 15 million copies to-date and starring at the top of "Best Album Ever" charts. The hyped up "Be Here Now", the 3rd album, was less successful in the US and Oasis' popularity sank down again. In a few weeks, a new album compiled only of Oasis b-sides called "the Masterplan", will hit stores all over the planet. Most of you think this will mean the big comeback of Oasis in America. "Acquiesce" is doing good right now on US radio. Well, we will have to wait and see just how well "the Masterplan" does on the US charts. |
FavoritesThe question was: "What's your favorite Noel guitar-solo?", and here are the results:
Live Forever - 11 Well, there's not much to say. Noel can really give a solo when he has to. The "Live Forever" solo is the definite winner. I just want to say that when Oasis play "Champagne Supernova" live, there's a long Noel-solo that knocks the crowd down every time. Simple perfection. |
Opinion PollThe question was: "Should Oasis record some of Liam's songs for the next album?", and here are the results:
Yes - 21 There are two arguments in this question. The first says that if Liam wrote songs, and Noel said they are good, why shouldn't Oasis record them? They should let the world see that Liam too can write songs, good ones. The second argument claims that until now, with all the songs written by Noel and Noel only, Oasis have done just great, named the best band in the world, have had their albums sold in millions. So why should the winning formula change? Why shouldn't Oasis continue just the same the rest of the way? Well, you all expressed your will for Oasis to record the Liam songs, we'll see what Noel and Oasis decide to do on the next album. |
FavoritesThe question was: "What's your favorite Oasis unreleased track?", and here are the results:
Snakebite - 5 I'll be completely honest: I haven't heard Oasis early unreleased tracks, but there are many people who got bootlegs with some of the early songs, and other ways to hear them. I read that "Snakebite" is an amazing instrumental, and you look like you love it. "Take Me" is, I heard, a great song written by Liam and Bonehead. You can see early Oasis were very varied by people voting for so many different songs. |
Opinion PollThe question was: "Should Oasis get someone to remix their songs for b-sides or a remixes album?", and here are the results:
No - 12 "Remixes" is a concept quite new in the huge thing called "music". Lately, many songs have been remixed into dance songs, and released again to the radio, on remixes albums, on b-sides, and so on. Heck, a classic mastepiece by Motzart, techno-style, is played in discos all around the world. The question is, if Oasis should do a thing like that to their songs, get loads of extra money, and have people dancing in parties to a remix of "Don't Look Back In Anger". I believe the rockers in us chose "No" as an answer because this would bring upon Oasis a diffrent side of them that goes against their rock'n'roll attitude. Besides, this just means more money for Noel, which is definitely a thing he's got enough of. Think about it. |
FavoritesThe question was: "What's your favorite Oasis support act for their UK tours?", and here are the results:
Supergrass - 6 One of the most important things for a good rock gig is a warm-up artist that performs before the main act, and gets the fans pumped up and ready to get crazy. For the warm-up bands, warming up a big and popular artist is a big break, that way the fans who come see the main act also get to know the warm-up band (which is usually a young, starting band). On Oasis' three main tours (one after each album) there have been about 5 warm-up bands. The weekly section lasted 3 weeks this time, because of my e-mail problems, and the winning band is "Supergrass". Now remember that the warm-up bands not only perform in UK gigs, but they travel with Oasis to Japan, Australia, the US, and more. |
Opinion PollThe question was: "Will the new b-sides album get to No. 1 in the charts?", and here are the results:
Yes - 18 Be sure that a lot of happy American Oasis fans cheered when it was announced that Oasis is going to release a b-sides album on November 1998. Since the UK singles are so tough to obtain in the US and other places in the world, Epic made a decision to release the extra album in order for the world-wide fans to know Oasis' great b-sides better. Noel actually stated to the press that he does not wish for UK fans to buy the album because it's basically for money the don't need, and that if they have the singles, the b-side album is just unneccesary. The question was wheather the album will reach No. 1, and I was surprised to see that many people actually think so. Most major fans have all of the singles, and I don't think that there would be so many people buying "the Masterplan" for it to reach No. 1. We'll have to wait about a month and see for ourselves... |
