What I liked best :   Fukue, Goto-retto
Comments :   Hi

Thank you for the wonderful website about Fukue! I don't know how long it took you to put it together, but it is certainly the best information out there. I lived there (I'm Canadian) for two years teaching English in Fukue-shi and on several neighbouring islands (Hisaka, Kabashima, and Ohshima). It was the best time of my life, and I have no doubt that it's one of the most beautiful places in Japan, populated by some of the warmest, most generous people. You should be proud to say that your ancestors are from Goto!

It was nice to have a little tour, and to see that 'my island' is finally on the internet. : )

Thanks for the memories.

Comments :   Tadaaki,

I very much enjoyed your web site, especially the Japanese Genealogy part. Do you enjoy doing genealogy?

I am 4th generation (yonsei) and have been tracking my ancestors back to Japan (with the great help of a Japanese co-worker). My ancestors came from Fukuoka-ken and Kumamoto-ken in Kyushu.

I just wanted to know if you know of other Japanese-Canadians or Japanese-Americans who are trying to do their research their family history back to Japan.

Thanks.

Comments :   I just visited your Beervana page contained in an e-mail I received about the Portland Marathon.

I'm a former (and hopefully future!) Oregonian, currently living in Pittsburgh, PA. A good friend here in town runs a killer little beer site called PubCrawler at http://www.pubcrawler.com. I thought you might like to add it to your links on Beervana...and possibly stop by his site to rate some of the Portland-area brew pubs!

I'm looking forward to being back in Oregon for vacations in late spring and in September for Cycle Oregon...I can't wait!

Comments :   I just discovered your web site after a recent trip to Portland to visit my daughter and enjoyed it. I thought you might like to try an Indonesian Gamelan concert sometime. It is a community orchestra with ties to Lewis and Clark College.

For concert dates call 503-235-8779.

It's interesting music that for me is an acquired taste, but it adds to the color of a wonderful city.

What I liked best :   Japanese Weddings
Comments :   Greetings from Malaysia! I am editor for a free monthly publication called JTrend, which aims to inform Malaysians about Japanese culture. I came across your website and simply loved the Japanese wedding pictures. I would like to ask you for permission to use the pictures for my article on Japanese weddings. There is a great interest in Japanese culture in Malaysia, especially among the Chinese, and many students want to study there. And many Malaysians are now marrying Japanese! Why? According to my research, it's because of the Japanese people's politeness and other good qualities, which are very lacking in most countries these days. These days people tend to be rude, don't know how to appreciate others and so on, but the Japanese appreciate even the smallest of things given to them. My company is a Japanese company called CEM Asia. I am very lucky to work in a Japanese company! My Japanese colleagues are such nice, polite and caring people. My Japanese boss appreciates those who work hard and gives them gifts. So do my Japanese colleagues. In all my working experience in other companies, I am the happiest here. So who can blame people if they are so interested in your culture?

Comments :   i just looked around your website a week or two ago, found the ties talk e-mail discussion list that had an all-food topic (among many many other things concerning japanese american issues). it's a great resource. all the comments there really intrigued me, so i signed up to the list, hoping to hear any food talk that may happen. i've been meaning to ask folks some food questions. i really like the diversity of the list - all the mish mash of commonalities and difference. one post someone made, something that was not about food at all, had the address for the asian reporter, a newspaper out of portland that has some food articles. i have many friends in oregon (i grew up washington state) so read with much interest.
