WELCOME TO MY DAY..

IT IS NICE TO HAVE YOU SHARE IT WITH ME...

GEELONG, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA!

Oh dear..once again I am WAY behind in updating this page..as my old friend John, from Mississippi contacted me to protest. Sorry, folks..I know it isn't good enough to again plead pressure of noncomputer pastimes. It isn't JUST that. In fact, I've been seriously thinking that maybe this page had a "USE-By" date which has passed...as chatrooms do !
I owe book reviews, too, and neither the trivia questions on the magazine page, nor the weekly midi selection has been updated. ..Mea Culpa!

Course, things WERE buzzing at work, as the conversion to roofed-over mall continued...

First, the new low, easy to supervise gondola shelves arrived and we put them together , and I filled them, discovering in the process just how rusty the knees had become!
And it was a great help to have granddaughter Maddie starting work, third generation family staffer, with a real flair for display work, and so much energy! Oh, and despite the husband's dire and negative predictions, I also sold ALL the cane shelving units we have used for so long within a couple of hours, as fast as I could empty them..and to people willing to provide their own transport!

Then Doug and the builders demolished the old circa 1982 dispensary area which, though we had used the outer shelves for display, had hidden a desk, a sink and the photocopier. This meant we had to move the copier to the waiting area, but we made that important space more spacious by removing all the books to the now raw-looking area and setting up a true book department.

And the waiting area is better too, because now now the kids do their drawing right WITH their parents!

But then the builders erected a temporary wall inside our main windows, so that we were effectively closed in at one end and could no longer be a walkthrough to and from the supermarket, a move which didn't please our customers at all and made going next door for lunch or a coffee or a hairdo a major expedition since we now had to walk all around the block.
And being used to always being able to see out made it difficult for us, since the workplace, at one end, is more like a dugout or basement!

Nor were we really impressed when they took a hammer to our windows, outside that thin wall, without first warning us..

NOW we know how they feel in Israel and Northern Ireland.!

And in the midst of all those changes, the technician booked a time to set up the turnkey software on our new computer NETWORK, and that meant I had to have the husband's home computer reformatted, moved to the shop, and in place, with everything working...
Which was really pretty terrible because the husband hadn't really thought out what would work.. as opposed to what he really wanted.

Nor does he respond easily, happily, or NICELY to change of any kind.
Even change he has ordered!

Enough said. It was the worst week of my life, to date!

But, in fact, the new system is working, and working efficiently , despite the regular male grumblings about reduced bench-space.
And Maddie is fitting in well, and learning fast, and making friends with the other juniors..and having her stay with us Friday nights in order to work Saturday mornings is kind of nice!

In fact, she has been the incentive I needed to turn the spare bedroom back into a sewing and craft room again, since she is so very keen to sew for herself, and to dress bears for the shop, and even learn to knit!
And she found my remaining craft supplies while she was retrieving cushions for the bed-about-to-be-moved to let us open out the sewing cabinet, and, to her, it was some kind of Aladdin's cave. She just loved it...and stayed the whole weekend.

Which was a bit embarassing because I had decided noone in my family was ever going to use the room full of needlework and craft supplies, and we hadn't re-registered the Unique Bears And Wares label for GST purposes, so that I might as well start selling everything off...and had taken most of it to work.
And now I have to start retrieving some of the things she wants to use, and bringing them home again, those items the customers haven't snapped up at bargain prices...

So the bed in that room has gone back to being pushed against a wall so we can use the programmable sewing machine ....
And I suspect, even though the room won't now pass the daughter-in-law's Feng Shui test ,that I will probably start sewing again in there , too!
And, hey, the bed and the unit are both on WHEELS..we can push it all back whenever.

I mean, when you've just moved the contents of half a SHOP, and the proprieter has now expressed his intention of expanding into the shop next door, and wants a plan of how we can move everything ELSE..what's the big deal about one small bedroom?

But I'll keep y'all posted!

Love to everyone over 50,and everyone on our side! -from
..Robin
