Blind
cave fish
Hmmm.. How did we ended up with
Blind cave fish in our hall? Well, Su thought that the beige blind cave fish looks really
cute so she bought it back home from Indonesia last Hols. They were initially in the tank
at her place.
The blind cave fish have evolved
into eyeless fish in their natural habitat. I was really very shocked to know that when I
saw them. They look like miniature pearl coloured carps. The area where they are supposed
to have eyes... well, they appear to be just a film of skin covering the socket and it's
pale pink. They are rather sweet.
Due to their loss of sight, they
make up with their sense of smell. They are rather aggressive too!! Apparently, all the
other fishes in the tank got "attacked" - "bitten" by these little
rascals!! They bite almost anything.. especially considering that they are removed from
their natural habitat.. most probably they do that to "test the waters"??? hee
hee...
In order to not irritate the other
fishes... we brought the four cave fish back to our hall and left the Angel fish at Su's
place for the time being.
We never really got to name them..
cos' they all look alike! Hiyah.. Once, when we changed water ... actually, it's Su who
did the changing.. cos' I was not around in hall.. when we discovered that one of the cave
fish has mysteriously disappear! There were only three left! Even if it died.. well,
there's no dead fish body in the tank too... we both guessed that the rest must have ate
it up or something.. *sigh* Poor little fellow. . .
They stayed in hall with us for the
next one year until we had to move back home. Instead of bringing them back to the tank ..
we decided to let it go at the hall six pond. =) Wonder if they liked it there....
