Terrapins
My pet turtles are now basking
in their tanks enjoying their dried up shrimps and fish and kangkong leaves. =) I got my
pet terrapins at the Redhill close market this year May. You know those terrapins with a
red painted patches at the side of your necks.. yupz! Those are the ones! We chose a light
green one and a dark green one. It was during the days of exams.. my final year exams that
we got them back to hall.. We got a small plastic tank and filled it with one inch
deep of water and tilted the tank at an angle to allow the terapins to either submerge
themselves in the water or bask and rest on the non water area. Fed them with the same
fish food I gave to the angel fish and cave fish.. they are really cute! Barely the size
of a fifty cents coin! The dark green one's named after a hostel mate of ours..
"WT" and the light green one was named as "JH" also after one of my
hostel mates.. by now.. you all should notice that we name our pets after people we know..
Kekekekeke...
I got the name "Adam"
from one of the names of a dancer whose quite good with his dancing techniques and
showmanship.. =P for the new chinchilla Su just got ... Hmm.. maybe that's why he's really
naughty?
I used to get "WT"
out of the tank and place him on the keyboard of my laptop in school when I am doing work
with my PC. He will stare at the screen and refuse to move at all.... fasinated by the
colourful graphics. "JH" is the shy one among the two. he would not struggle
when we hand held it or feed it. ..while "WT"'s the naughtier of them two.
When we moved out of the hostel
room, I got them back home. Both of them appeared to be well and okie when they first
moved back.. but "WT" didn't survive the trip back.. he was in shock and soon
after refused to eat and died suddenly after a week back at my place. "JH"
was all alone in the tank and I felt really sorry for it. that's when we decided to go
back to buy another two more terrapins for it.. to keep him companied. We went back
Redhill close market and got him a cousin " a long tailed dark green terrapin "
and a similar red painted terrapin friend. Su's sis gave me a plastic hamster cage for me
to redecorate for three terapins.. and I bought additional pebbles and a rock for them to
climb and explore their new house.
"JH" became the ring
leader now as he is the most aggressive of the three... he always fight for food with the
"short tail" terrapin .. the long tailed guy is rather gentle.. he will
just keep to himself until there's food swimming pass him in the tank. I sure hope they
don't ostrasize him just because he looks different from them....
My brother dotes on them, so
does my mum. She's always very concern as to whether they have enough food to eat or
whether the waters clean or not.. hee hee.. guess when it's ready.. I shall ask if I may
keep a pet chinchilla too.. =)
