Mini
Chicks!
Hmm.. How did we ended up with six little chicks?
Well, we were deciding on having dinner over at redhill close market like on the 20th of
August 1999. Su's really craving for BBQ stingray and we both wanted to get out of
school... so.. we got on 199 and took the MRT to Redhill. There's two aquarium shops there
by the way. We always pass by the two stores on our way to eating yummy Stingray. It so
happens that the store nearest to the coffee shop got a new shipment of those tiny
minichicks! They look like quails.. brown specked chicks. Su's totally in love with the
brown specks chicks!! =)
It so happens that a few weeks before that, Marina
Square there was holding a pet's exhibition and we saw those lovely miniatue chicks on
sale there. We first got to know about the chicks when we went holland village a month
back from then and there's this two ladies fussing over a pair of mini chicks in a tank
over at a pub there.. we heard from her that she got the chicks imported from Taiwan and
stuff.. I still remember her being really chio.. and Su's really singing her praises..
Then again, the place's rather dim and we are quite high on drinks....

We decided to rear the chicks in school. Got all the
chicks from the uncle there after our dinner and brought them back hall that night, with
their feeds and a carton box for a temporary home for them.
We fussed over them the whole night trying to think of
names for each individual chick and tugged them all in and placed he box near to my
desk as we turn in to zzzzz..
Never did we expect to wake up to see 5 of the chicks
dead in thier box the next morning!!!! Horrors of horrors!! We tried to revive them .. but
they just won't budge. A little one was found weak among the died ones.. we named it Herc
after Hercules for it's strength in surviving. Took it out and warm him up with our
hands.. fed it food and water and hoped that he would survive .....
Alas! he didn't last long.. he died when we were
asleep the next day. We had wanted to warm him and nurse him to health, but our room in
school has been too cold for him too... he was taken away just like that.. through our
fault. We couldn't get a place that's warm enough for them .... after that.. both Su and I
got phobia of rearing little animals in our hostel. The Angel fish and cave fish will do
for the time being... I was really quite upset.. maybe if we didn't buy them back that
day.. they might have led a long life with some other owner..... *sigh*
