2008 comes to an end. A year of what? I'm not sure. But I think overall a great year for me.
I've been at my current job for another year. It's fun, it's challenging, but so far has not been very rewarding. Some of the best parts about working at a startup was the instant feedback and the rapid iteration. That led to an extremely rewarding process of releasing new stuff and fixing new stuff constantly. Working at a large company with rules and regulations? Not as fun. It's understandable why they have the rules. A bad release would be a huge pr snafu. And that sucks.
But there's hope that next year we'll be able to kick much ass. And be able to perform like we did before. Maybe. Please?
A few memorable moments of 2008:
- Disneyland
- We Are Scientists/Cut Off your Hands concert
- ATV riding
- Japanese Exchange Student.
- Little Mermaid
- Hawaii
Denpa Shonen is on hulu. Here's an article about the show and Nasubi.
Hulu is the best website ever. 2008 the year of Hulu.
Albums, Movies, TV, Games, I don't know. All good stuff.
Playing GTA 4. Fun
2009. Let's do something awesome. Out.

I almost thought I failed November. Turns out today is the last day of November and not December yet! Alright! Worthless streak still going!
November has been a boring month. Nothing significant to post.
Survivor has been a pretty good season. I enjoy watching it, but I don't think it has anything memorable about it other than Crystal being sassy.
Shows I subscribe to on Hulu:
- It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
- 30 Rock
- The Office
- House
- Hell's Kitchen
- Kitchen Nightmares
- Chuck
- Prison Break
Abc and cbs need to jump on the hulu bandwagon. Abc especially. I don't want your stupid plugin to stream video.
I need a new video game. Starcraft 2 where are you?
Out for November. 2 hours left!

Workout Club Fail. Around this time last year, I started working out weekly. And stopped about a month in. This year, I started again about a month ago. Today marks week 5. And I decided not to go. Again, Fail.
The gym has some new quirks. They replaced the TVs with flat panels, and in doing so have moved the audio to overheard speakers. I have no idea how to turn on the televisions. One time, I found the remote hiding in the weight rack. But I had no idea how to turn on the speakers. So I just left the TV on with no audio. Which is more or less worthless if the equipment I'm using is facing away from the tv.
They also removed the scale. I don't know how much I weigh, but I feel bigger. I wish I had a number to go with it. Without a number, I feel like I'm playing the time game with my weight. I'm going to be sorely disappointed when I do find out.
You ever play the time game with yourself at work? You ever play the time game where you go "I'm not gonna look at my watch for 2 hours." I'm gonna sit here and scrape these shrimp. scrape scrape scrape scrape scrape. OK a hours past, maybe I should look and feel good. naw, fuck that, I'm gonna wait a whole nother hour. scrape scrape scrape scrape scrape scrape. alright. 2 hours passed. Time to look and feel good about myself. And you look, Fuck 15 minutes.

December : Eminem - Relapse
January 26th : Franz Ferdinand - Tonight: Franz Ferdinand

A couple albums I'm listening to that weren't on the lists are The Walkmen - You and Me, and DJ Deckstream - Soundtracks.
The Walkmen - You and Me is ok, I like Cut off your Hands - You and I better. Those 2 albums are radically different. The Walkmen wins in the "can't understand what he's saying" whine olympics. Cut off your Hands wins in the Turbo Pop Rocks category. The slower songs on Cut off your Hands album aren't that good, but the fast paced ones and brilliant.
DJ Deckstream - Soundtracks is an amazing old school style hip hop album. It has really jazzy and softer beats with new school rapping on top of it. Recommended!
That's it. 2 weeks of staring, 1 second of a smile. Let's go! Out for October!

Fly like an eagle.
Just spent a week in a Hawaii with my family. Sitting on an airplane sucks, but the environment of Hawaii is well worth it. I wasn't aware that Japanese is like the secondary language of Hawaii. Everywhere we went, things were written in english as well as japanese and we were greeted in Japanese as well. Weirdos.

My apartment lease ends this month. But nobody has contacted me about it. And I haven't contacted them. Um. Ok. Homeless time!
This is my first post from Google Chrome. Will it be my last? Time will tell.
That's it. Out for September.

I spent Wednesday night at the Castro Theatre watching The Little Mermaid with a friend of mines. It wasn't just The Little Mermaid. It was The Little Mermaid Sing-Along! Of course, not having seen the movie for somewhere around 12 years means the singing along part was really really hard. But it was a ton of fun. I'm glad I went, and I'm glad my buddy came with me without struggle or even actually knowing what I was taking her too.
August went by way too quickly. September starts a new crazy chapter in life.
Bionic Commando Rearmed is freaking hard. I've only made it to the 2nd level and I continually die over and over again. I can't get the swing mechanic down
The olympics were a nice summer diversion, but nbc's decision to show the usa men's basketball game in the morning was awful. I didn't get to see a single game on tv. Not a single one! But much props to nbc for showing them in high quality online. Silverlight streams pretty well. Nice work guys.
Out for August. Good bye Lego. The ups and downs of knowing you have been the best and worst days of my life.

I wonder if Geocities makes yahoo any money at all.
Sometimes I subvert the man by playing songs in winamp in random mode. The man wants you to listen to tracks in the order he tells you to. Winamp lets me get around the man and do things the way I want. That's showing him.
I don't know what to do. I'm bored with everything right now
I'm playing Crysis. The game starts off pretty crappy, but it eventually becomes entertaining. You start with a pretty crappy gun in a wide spread environment. Your cloak lasts for approximately 0 seconds if you're moving and the enemies swarm you once you're detected. Eventually I realized that you need to play the game more stealthy If you can push your way through the first few parts, the game becomes pretty cool. All of your guns get addon attachments to make them a lot more fun to use. For example, you can add a scope to your shotgun. A scope. On a shotgun. You know, just in case you want to kill that dude a 1000 yards away with your shotgun.
The shotgun actually lets you do that. You can change the gun mode from a spread shot, to just firing the round like a rifle. I haven't tried to snipe with it, but if I ever don't have a sniper rifle, I might give it a try.
The nanosuit is an ok gimmick. It's barely worth it to switch out of Armor mode. Cloak is useful if you want to get around somebody, but once you're past that person, you need to camp in armor mode to get all your energy back or you're a sitting duck. Speed mode is pretty worthless. It's usually not worth the armor deduction to sprint. Power is nice for sniping, but other than that I don't use it. Maybe I'm doing it wrong?
Out for July. wtf mates.

End of June update.
I don't know.
With the Weezer, N.E.R.D and Girl Talk albums out, there doesn't appear to be much on the horizon for a while. Time to go hunting for new music?
April 28th : Islands - Arm's Way : Haven't listened to yet. Not really in the mood
May 13th : Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs : same
August 26th : The Game - L.A.X
October 13th : Kaiser Chiefs - Off With Their Heads
October 13th : Keane - Perfect Symmetry
2008 : Doves - ???
2008 : The Killers - ???
2009? : Franz Ferdinand - ???
2009? : +44 - ???
Life is awkward.
I've been playing TF2 and Lego Indy, but the game that really captures my time now is ... Starcraft. Thankfully I am not killing myself playing that game. I have it installed on my macbook and can only play for a couple hours before I run out of battery. Use a power adapter? What a brilliant idea! I'm too lazy to bring it home with me from work though, so it remains a 2 hour limit.
Also in awesome Starcraft news is the Intel Classic tournament, streaming live all the way from Korea with English Commentary. If you're up Saturday night(Sunday morning) at 2am you can watch it live and usually follow a chat thread at the shack. Otherwise, watch the videos at the website. If you have 20 minutes to burn, watch it. All the videos are pretty much awesome.
June! June! Have a great July. out.

Middle of the month update!
Since the last update, I've started and beat GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas. There was somewhere around 65+ hours of game time total. In 1 month. Now that I've beaten both of them there is this empty void inside of me. Like I don't know what to do with myself. It really is sad.
Java. Java.
Java is still a weird language to me. I understand it more now. But I work in a box. A box that allows me to avoid all of the setup that one would normally use when building an application. That's the main pitfall of Java. Once it's all setup, and eclipse is running ok, programming in Java isn't that bad. But it's still not that great.
One of the biggest things I'm learning is what all the fluff in java is. 6 months ago, I honestly would not be able to comprehend the code that I'm writing now. But now I understand what I'm doing to a point when I can write a whole bunch of code without having to reference another piece of already written code. It's a pretty sad truth, but java was that foreign to me.
Flight of the Conchords - Flight of the Conchords - A+ : This album is so damn good. Get it.
Out for May. It is absolutely burning here.

Saturday, more like Caturday am I rite?
Played paintball for the first time yesterday. I have 4 visible welts on my legs. I think there's one on my back, but I can't see it, so it doesn't count. Paintball is fun, but the accuracy of the guns means it isn't a video game. You can line up a dude, fire a ton of shots his way, and completely miss. Oh wait, that's exactly like Counter-Strike, so I guess it is like a video game.
Music Update:
March 17th : We Are Scientists - Brain Thrust Mastery : Yummy Yum Yum
March 25th : The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely : Yummy Yum Yum
April 8th : Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple : Yummy Yum Yum

Again
I'm moving again. I'm moving to an apartment in a sort of ghetto area of the town where I work. I'm probably twice as close to work as I was before, but I think my commute will probably be the same. Freeways vs streets.
At my previous 2 apartments, I had never met a single one of my neighbors. I didn't know anybody. And that was perfectly fine by me. It's not even day 1 yet at my new place, and I've already met asshole #1. Great. I guess this is what happens when you move to the ghetto.
I'm going to miss living in pimped out apartments. This will be different.
Time to start buying homes right? Let's get this started.
Comcast tried to charge me $25 to move my internet to my new apartment. I complained, and then the support person eventually "found a promotion" to give me my installation for free. Oh hey thanks. bastards.
Vampire Weekend is a pretty good band/album. It's different. Therefore better. Right?
Later. Out from Sunnyvale. On to new city.

Holy crap, I'm still posting!
I went to Disneyland last week. Seriously. I rode Space Mountain 3 times with nearly 0 line. Craziness.
Music. 2008 has started with quite a whimper. There's nothing out there! The only new album that I've enjoyed this year is Radiohead's - In Rainbows. It's pretty damn good, if not lyrically indecipherable. Nothing else until March!
March 17th : We Are Scientists - Brain Thrust Mastery
April 14th : The Kooks - Konk
April 15th : Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple
April 28th : Islands - Arm's Way
2008 ???? : Weezer - ???

2008 ???? : N.E.R.D - N.3.R.D

TV. Survivor! Lost! only 2 shows worth watching!
Dexter from Shotime is going to be aired on cbs soon. I've heard great things about it, but I've never bothered to watch it. I'll give it a shot. I hope it's awesome.
up down up down. I'm back to down mode. I don't why I'm doing it again, but I started my pursuit again right after Disneyland. It's like a virus that I can't kill. The worst part is that it distracts me during the day and night. I can't stop thinking.
Trouble. Nothing but Trouble. Out for February. See ya soon.

10 Year Anniversary Post.
This is unbelievable. Have I really been updating this site for 10 years? Apparently so. A sad sad life I live.
2007 was a decent year. I'm not really sure how great it was, but it had a ton of ups and downs. It wasn't the year that everything went right.
How has life changed? Made a bunch of cash. I get free food. Paid Internet. Wii and bikes and gym @ work. New apartment. Life still feels a little pointless at times. I think I've still got a ton of work to do. I keep waiting for that switch to flip, but it doesn't. Time to flip it myself sir!
I bought Rock Band. That game is a ton of fun. Pounding on the drums is amazingly satisfying, but easily becomes extremely frustrating when your body will not listen to your brain. Kick, right hand, left! C'mon body, get coordinated!
Singing is alright. If I know the song, I can usually beat it with a pretty good score. If I don't know, I just bullshit my way through to pass. The song that I failed repeatedly? The Strokes - Reptillia. I just couldn't get the pitch right on the singer's fucked up voice. damn you Strokes.
I've beat guitar on medium and now I'm working my way through Hard. Get this, hard mode is hard! I'm fumbling my way through songs and barely passing them. I'm solely beating songs because of star power. It is sad sad sad.
TF2 is now the game that eats my online time. I'm averaging 15-20 hours every 2 weeks. What did I do before this damn game? My favorites are now Pyro and Soldier. Scouts are no longer fun, simply because they have been proven to be way too weak for me on most maps. My hit scan gunning isn't that good. Pyros are great fun, but some maps are way too open for a pyro to do anything significant. Demoman is the bastard class. Stickies always feel cheap when I die to them, and when I kill with them.
Album of the year 2007:
Jimmy Eat World - Chase This Light
Show of the year 2007: Lost?
Movie of the year 2007: No idea. Superbad? Bender's big score?
I'm playing more poker now. I'm still not that good, but it's fun. It's the only game I play where patience is actually a pretty good tactic.
2008. Good luck to all of you. When will this madness end?

|
Uh-oh. I'm posting more. That's always a bad sign right? Right.
Is December a good month? It seems like nothing can ever go 100% right. I shouldn't be at home right now, but I am because I am dumb as hell.
But I have already written so much working code in December, that I almost feel like I know how to program again. That really big site that I wrote over the last few years? That was cheating. Dynamic languages are too easy. haha. Programming in java? Now I feel like a real man. Almost as manly as a caveman.
Is pushing the reset button the correct behavior? I always feel like I need to start over, but sometimes the best route is to just take the blows and keep going. You don't want to start completely over every time.
damn it
Next month will mark 10 years of this blog. 10 years. For over a 1/3 of my life I've written here. My writing is getting worse. My memory is non existent. My expressive word play does not exist. I am more and more scared everyday of writing something really crazy because of the all-knowing google. And I've always been scared that I'll meet somebody new who will find my entries and think I'm crazy. The truth? I shouldn't fear it. Nobody in real life who has found this site has ever mentioned it to me except for those I'm already close with. I know that there are a few people who have google'd for certain things and found me, but nobody ever mentions it to me. But most importantly, nobody has ever treated me differently because of this site. But that could be just because I've been writing so very vaguely. whatevers.
To the end! See ya around. If not this year, then next year.

And this is how it starts.
I'm playing video games again. Online multiplayer video games. I purchased The Orange Box. I've already played 7+ hours of TF2 in the past week. I am horrible. But it's fun.
The scout is probably my favorite class. Simply because it's way too fast and he can double jump(!). The shottie does not do a lot of damage, but you can seriously destroy the other classes if you have enough space to run around them.
2nd fave is the Soldier. Good ol grunts. I feel like they're way too slow to be effective though. Their rockets are nice, but you only get 3 before you have to reload. and you're a snail.
3rd is medic. This is a boring class. But I score a lot of points playing it. And really, the point of a video game is not to have fun, it's to score a lot of points.
Archive #30 is alive and well. Another chapter of my life is completed in a few boring sentences.
I believe the reset button is going to be pushed again. Maybe December will be a great month. Maybe it will be the month we all wake up from our slumber. Maybe it will be the month that I do.
Later all. To the bed I go
