Notes
A great lady who was brought up by relatives after her father (William
Jr.) and mother (Lottie) died at early ages. She evidently was well
educated and schooled in deportment and grace but did not find Church
particularly inviting or necessary. She lived well, had a good many
friends in the social circle of uptown Wallingford and New Haven and
was an excellent cook and kitchen manager, often with help in the
kitchen. She was devoted to her husband, Bill and forgiving of his
sometimes singular ways. She enjoyed smoking her entire adult life and
it seemed to have no ill effect upon her longevity. She was a good
grandmother. Bessie, who helped her in the kitchen and serving on
special occasions, led us to calling her "Bobby" and that's who she
always was. We looked forward on Christmas and Thanksgiving to going
down to Wallingford (from Wethersfield) to see "Bobby" and "Dad"
