Isaiah 55:6 For twenty years, plus, I read the Scriptures and went to Bible study. I heard the same stories over and over, till I wanted to cry from the hunger I felt. Reading Scriptures and praying would leave me feeling empty. I knew that there was more but could not understand half of what I read. I was starving for an infilling of the Holy Spirit of Truth. Then something happened that has changed my life forever. I received an anointing from the Holy Spirit, different than any other I had ever known. With this anointing came a realization, that the Bible, the Word of God, was a Living Word. It was no longer just a book from God. The Living Word is Jesus. He is alive and directs my life by the guiding of the Holy Spirit. "Faith cometh by hearing, hearing by the Word of God." (Romans l0:l7) How many times have we heard this and just passed it off as an old cliche? I have, info in, info out. When we finally get it into our heads, we all, will come to a much deeper relationship with the Lord. Our ministries will no longer be hidden from ourselves and others. We will not suffer from the sin of disbelief and doubt. When we realize that the Word of God is alive, we will not have to be reminded to read our Bibles anymore. We will, excitedly and expectantly run to the Word daily, for guidance and promises. For you can not open up the Word any longer, without noticing a promise from God for those He loves and calls His own. Something else has happened. I now no longer question or doubt my own salvation. It was one of the most difficult things in my life to accept that I could be forgiven. When I do sin, I go to the throne of my Lord and ask His forgiveness, and by His grace and mercy, He forgives me daily. It is not up to the pastor to take my hand and lead me to Heaven. When I stand in front of the judgment seat of the Lord, I will be there on my own. (Philippians 2:9 -11 "Wherefore, God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name, That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, .......... and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of God, the Father." ) We can have confidence in the Lord when we are in His Word, that He will show us by His Word what He wants of us. As long as we continue to pray for humility and fight against pride, the Lord will use us and teach us all things. We are not to go off like stray bullets, with every whim of doctrine we can come up with. The Lord will teach you personally about what He wants in your life. When you allow the Holy Spirit to guide you, you can be set free from doubt and forever know your salvation is sealed with the Lord. (Ephesian l:l2-l3 ..... "Christ, in Whom ye also trusted, after ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in Whom also after ye believed ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.") Let us all pray that the Father of Glory will give to us a spirit of wisdom and of revelation, so we are prepared for the soon Return of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians l:l7 ..... "Prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.") I met Grandpa Earl when I was 29 years old. One day he would be in my life and then he would move and I'd lose contact again. He was 91 years old when I met him the second time. What a pistol! He had to have his own room because he was so intolerant of everyone, but he loved my twin Sister and me, our families and our visits. Our visits were put on hold when the floods of '96 kept us home. Grandpa lived almost two hours away, but he lived on a river and was evacuated once. One day I got a call from his son-in-law that Grandpa was very sick and that I should come right away, but he did not insist or press the point of how ill Grandpa really was. I told him we had already planned to visit the next day after Church. When I hung up the phone I really had a strong desire to drop everything and leave right then. So my Husband and I got ready, took extra clothes and decided we would probably spend the night. Well, when we got there I was shocked. It had only been two months since I had seen him and he was so little. He was having a hard time breathing and was hardly able to talk. At first he did not even recognize me, but when he did, he lit up. I said, "Grandpa are you afraid?" He said "no". My heart sank, for in my walk with the Lord when people said "yes", they usually ended up accepting Jesus. I then said, "Grandpa, I never got to ask you if you know about Jesus?" He said, "No I do not know Him." I then told him about how the Lord was everything to me and how He has promised us eternal life. It was a very short testimony. I then asked him if he wanted to say a prayer of repentance and to ask Jesus into his life. He said he didn't know how and he was very weak. I said I would say the prayer and he could agree with me if he wanted. So I said, "Jesus forgive me for my sins," he said, "Yes." "Jesus come into my life," he said, "Yes." "And Jesus be my Lord and Savior," and again he said, "Yes". I then told him that the angels were rejoicing and he was being written into the Book of Life, and he said, "Yes." And then I cried tears of joy. Now I have to tell you that Grandpa was breathing in gasps before this prayer and could hardly talk above a whisper. The nurse told me that he had been like that for days. He had been very restless. After he accepted Jesus another miracle happened. His breathing became regular and for the first time in days he fell asleep peacefully. I told the nurse that we were going home, it was l0 p.m., and would return in the morning to see him. A little after midnight I got a call from the hospital that he had gone peacefully in his sleep. I praised the Lord that He had guided and directed me to go see him. I did not get to know my Grandpa much in this life but now I will have Eternity to get to know him. The story does not end here. At my Grandpa's funeral I found family that I did not even know about. I met my Aunt Marie and Aunt Lela and others. They both love the Lord and were overjoyed when I told them about Grandpa accepting Jesus. Thinking back on that day, I have to say it was the nicest funeral I have ever been to. Linda Marie Ward Mulraine
