What You Can Know From God's Word

The most important Book in the whole world is the Bible, God's Word. If we can just take time out of our busy days and read it, the mysteries will start to unfold before us. When you find the first new truth for yourself, then the excitement begins. For, from there you will know that you have been given the Spirit of Truth, which is the Holy Spirit.

    Testing the Spirits

'Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.' - 1 John 4:1

Have you ever wondered how to Test the spirits? First, we need to know about spirits, themselves. Some are good, some are bad.

    Spirits

While reading in Revelation, I noticed something, Revelation 3:1 says ---- 'He who has the seven spirits of God.' ---- What seven spirits of God? That got my attention, so I followed the references. ---- Isaiah 11:1-2 - 'A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the spirit of counsel and of power, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord,' ---- For the first time I was seeing the gifts of the Spirit, as spirits themselves.

It always confounded me what Matthew 12:43-45 meant. The unclean spirit says ----'I will return to the house (man) I left.' ---- When he arrives, he finds the house (man) unoccupied, swept clean and put in order, then remember, he takes seven other spirits more wicked than himself with him and re-enters, so the house (man) is worse off than before. I did not understand what the empty space was supposed to filled up with, now I know, the different spirits which are from God. Then it is possible to pray and live within the will of God.

Here is a LIST of just some of the different spirits:

Spirit of the Lord, spirit of wisdom, spirit of understanding, spirit of counsel, spirit of power, spirit of knowledge, and spirit of the fear of the Lord. - Isaiah 11:1-2

Spirit of glory and Spirit of God. - 1 Peter 4:14

    Spirit of truth. - 1 John 4:6

Spirit of prophecy, which is the testimony of Jesus. - Revelation 19:10 (My favorite!)

Spirit of timidity, spirit of power, spirit of love, and spirit of self-discipline.
    - 2 Timothy 1:6-7

Unclean spirit, wicked spirit. - Matthew 12:43,45

Spirit of stupor. - Romans 11:7-8

Spirit of jealousy. - Numbers 5:14

Spirit of bondage. - Roman 8:15

Spirit of error. - 1 John 4:6 These are just a sampling of the numerous spirits I found. I will not get into the Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit - John 16:13. That is a different study.

Now we have a list of spirits, some good and some bad, so we can get back to the Testing of the Spirits.

    Testing

This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God. ---- 1John 4:2-3 - 'Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of anti-christ, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.'

When I read someone's theory or teaching; the main thing I look for is whether they use scriptures to back up what they are trying to teach. You see when I give my opinion and have a scripture reference you can more easily, either understand what I am saying, or correct me, (in love) if I am wrong. For we are to be willing to be corrected, beware if someone is too defensive of their work.

1 John 4:5-6 - 'They are of the world; therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.' ---- We could all write our theories, but we must keep as close to scripture in our writings as we can so as not to fall and lead others astray. If we are of God we must speak the truth of God.

If you are unsure, then pray for the spirit of the fear of the Lord and beware of persuading or being persuaded and beware of taking the name of Jesus our Savior in vain. Because it is not always, 'Thus says the Lord.' ---- Jeremiah 23:30-33 says 'Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the Lord, that steal my words every one from his neighbour. Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the Lord, that use their tongues, and say, He saith. Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the Lord, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the Lord.' ---- I have noticed a lot of writers are not obeying God, they are not testing the spirits before they submit their dreams, visions or teachings. Satan's voice can be as loud as the Lord's, just because it is supernatural does not mean it is from God and the sooner we all really grasp this, the better.

Keep Deuteronomy 18:20-22 in mind. - 'But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.'

Proverbs 30:5-6 warns - 'Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him. Add thou not unto His words, lest He reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.'

Finally: examine the Scriptures, don't be deceived by anyone. ---- Acts 17:11 - 'These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.'

They Tested What They Heard by the Word of God

Dear Friends, ---- 'Let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.' - 1 John 4:7 ---- Linda Marie Ward
