Over the years Lupus has affected my heart, pancreas, liver, and over-all health. My current symptoms are fatigue, arthritis, heart problems, weight-loss (during my last flare, I lost 15 pounds in one month), rashes, abdominal pain, and anemia. Several times I have been close to death and didn't know the underlying cause. I have just recently been diagnosed with Lupus. At least now I know what I am up against. In the past, the doctors I consulted obviously weren't knowledable about lupus or they would have known why I was near death. However, I now have a wonderful physician who is very thorough, extremely patient, and is concerned about my well-being. I dread the next flare but I know I will be okay now. I just hope and pray it never gets to the point of affecting my brain. That I don't know if I could deal with. Thank you for listening to me and my prayers are with each of you with Lupus.

I am so thankful to have ample support from those close to me. My family, friends, and co-workers who know of my illness are all very understanding, which makes things much easier for me. When I am sick, I just keep reminding myself that the flare will eventually pass and maybe a cure will be found soon. Reading up on lupus has helped me understand the disease better, and knowing about it relieves many unfounded fears.
To all my family I would like to say that sometimes I feel like I can't go on, but you all are so wonderful to always be here for me, offering your love and encouragement. To my three children and seven grandchilren, I say, "I love you with all my heart and soul. You are my life! You always have been and always will be." To Chuck, my mother, sisters, brother, and friends, "I love you and thank you for being there for me." With the support from all of you, I will be able to make it through whatever comes my way.
