What's New At Papa Bear's Place
- January 11, 2004
-
We've almost made it half way through winter and so far have only had one deep-freeze spell. I have been busy with a new job, so changes have not been a priority for the past 6-9 months. Hopefully, I will find some time to make some updates.
Well, I re-designed a new entrance page, it will be my new entrance eventually, but for now you have to link to it from here...

We've almost made it to Spring. The trees are starting to show some buds and the weather is warming up... Finally!
Well, I designed a new entrance page, but I don't feel like it deserves to be the first page at my site yet...
- I did finish coding a site menu using my Toggle Menu system. It takes a bit of time to initally setup, but changing it's look and feel are going to be much easier now that the basic links and setup are done.
- There is a new Toggle Menu information page that gives a bit more info about the menu and it's versatility.

I can`t believe how looong we`ve been in a DEEP FREEZE here in the Great Lakes region!
It gave me time to make some modifications and add features to my Toggle Menu System.
- I corrected a visibilty switching problem, simplified the positioning logic, and added optional backdrops for the menus.
- If the whole idea of creating your own menu seems a bit overwhelming, ask me if I can help, maybe we can arrange to have one created for you.

Happy New Year!
In some ways I look forward to the bone-chilling winter's in Cleveland, Ohio... they allows me time to do work at my computer, who wants to do outside chores in this weather?!
This is what I've been fooling with for the last week or so:
- Toggle Menu System is a flexible, easy-to-use, and easy-to-modify webpage menuing system. It picks up, where my Tech Eclectic pages left off, dealing with coding a webpage menu system.
It uses DHTML, javascripts, layers, and tables to simplify the creating and modifying of menus for webpages. Each menu is a seperate division on the page. This allows dynamic positioning and simplified editing.
It also allows the 'Look' of the link and the 'Text' of the link to be formatted individually. Now you can have a graphical menu that allows you to modify the text of the link, without creating a new image.
Using my Toggle Menu System, simplifies site updates, additions, and changes by allowing quick and painless menu updates.
Any comments or questions?
More about scripts and menus
can be found on my Tech Eclectic pages.
Page Transition Effects
- you will notice these effects when moving around my newer pages (if you are using MSIE browser version 5, or higher) . I am in the process of adding it to more pages. Do you have an opinion about these browser goodies? Should we make use of them?

My what's new area has been neglected while I have been working on some new pages:
- Tech Eclectic is a set of new pages dealing with coding webpages using DHTML, javascripts, layers, etc. It has a nifty menuing system that you can imitate for your own site. I hope to explain and demonstrate some of the more interesting features you can add to make your pages more interactive for your visitors. I wil be adding more as time permits...
Wedding bells are ringing
- in October for my beautiful daughter, Heather. Heather and her fiance`, Michael, work at Mt. Ranier National Park outside of Seattle, WA. They will be married on a cruiseship, then go on a cruise for their honeymoon. Congratulations and best wishes for the newly weds!

It's been busy around here, but I haven't found the time to let you know what's been happening on a regular basis... so here's a quick synopsis:
WebRemote has been kicking around for awhile now
- Use it to access my site and major portals like MSN, Yahoo, AltaVista, Lycos, Skinz, and more. It can get you to the most popular sites and search engines with just a few clicks!
- By clicking the UP or DOWN ARROWS on the WebRemote, you change the list of links available at the bottom of the remote. Currently there are 5 different lists; fancy covers, my favorites, main portals, search engines, and customization sites. I hope to expand the list and perhaps add a few more groups. Any suggestions?
Script Crypt Updates
- I added information about dropdown menus and staus bar messages. I also posted a note about implementing the scripts into your webpage (and why you might not be able to do it).
General Housekeeping
- There are still pages sporting my old name 'Interlopers'... I am in the process of weeding them out, but I know I've overlooked at lest a few of them...
- Some dead links were eliminated, and some typos where corrected... I blame it on Carpultunnel desease!

What better day to do some major makeovers on a site!
A New Way to Navigate Pages and more...
- Now the index page loads a second options page. This was done to enable a new Remote Control navigation aid. Access it by pressing the symbol. This symbol is being added to most of the site pages so it can be easily found (unlike your TV remote, do you know where it is?)
New Search From BeSeen
- I replaced my old search script for one using BeSeen sitemapper. The advantages include automatic re-indexing you can schedule and minimal involvement (you can't ask for more!)
Chat Rooms Now Open
- My chat page was so musty, (how musty was it?), it was so musty, I kept sneezing as I tried to update it... but it's finally is working.
- There are 2 chat styles available. One is a standard HTML powered by BeSeen. The other is a JAVA Applet by NBCi/Xoom.
New Message Board Available
- A message board is also available from the chat page. It's intended to be a place to post any message or comments for other visitors (or to me!)
Please Accept My Apology!
- All of the forms at this site now send to the same address. Unfortunately, I was unaware of changes at a sister site that made these forms return error messages!
SORRY! It won't happen again... PROMISE!('til next time)
Site Updates... Too Much Work/Too Little Time
- As you move around you will still see references to PapaBears (my old site name). I am changes these as time permits. BEAR (bad pun!) with me please!

- August 21, 2000(Recap)
-
(Note to self: Remember to update this list more than twice a year!)
Well what do you expect for a personal page... It seems I never can find enough time to update much of anything. Here's a recap of changes made since January. Being as fickle as an old woman when it comes to these pages, it should be no surprise that we have just gone through the 3rd name change of these pages. (Inn-cite, PapaBears, and now Papa Bear's) Yeah, what's in a name anyway? It reflects more on my personna, than on the actual content of these pages(which change at a snails pace). So now 'Welcome to Papa Bear's Place!
- Please note that most of my pages need a javascript enabled browser (IE3+ or NS3+) in order to properly display and navigate.
Up for some fun and games?
- Beware of the Wampus! A down-and-dirty maze game!
- The Magic Number Page was modified to respond better for quicker play.
A JAVASCRIPT SAMPLES PAGE is in the taking shape. - There will be scripts available free that I use in my pages. - Plus links to other great free scripts.
The other site mantainance is proceeding slowly (Surprised? NOT!)
- All pages are being modified to display at various user resolutions.
- Dead and/or rusty links are being corrected.
- View 1999 History
- List of changes from January through December, 1999.
