I guess you might say he was a person who was
never interested in getting credit or receiving honours. He did corny
things like pay the bills on time, go to church, and volunteer at our school.
He helped his kids with their homework and drove mom to the stores to go
shopping. He worked hard at the job he enjoyed, and he loved to go
watch our baseball games on warm summer evenings. He got a kick out of
watching us play and would often go bike riding with us.
Tonight is our first
night without him. We don't know what to do with ourselves.
We are sorry now for the times we didn't show him the proper respect.
But we are grateful for a lot of other things.
We are thankful that
God let us have our father for as long as he did. And we are happy
that we were able to let him know how much we loved him. That wonderful
man died with a smile on his face and fulfillment in his heart. He
knew that he was a great success as a husband and a father, a brother,
a son, and a friend. I wonder how many millionaires can say that?
