What fun! My room is pale, pale violet with white
trim. I have an ecletic array of furniture with a big canopy bed surrounded
by white gauze. My Scottie, Darby Skye, is sitting on the chaise, and there
is a copy of Pride and Prejudice by the large window seat. There is a large
wicker screen in one corner of the room that hides the computer. A large
wardrobe from the the 18th century stands adjacent to the bed. On the opposite
wall is a matching vanity.
Hardwood floors with rugs over parts of them, especially
by the bed so there would be no cold toes being put on the floor in the
morning. A fair amount of windows to let in light. (Could I have a corner
room with two window seats, perchance??) One window seat for the dogs and
one for me (the dogs really like to look out the window when not outside).
Speaking of dogs, by the bed, a four poster with
bed stands with many drawers for holding *stuff*, there would have to be
a stool that the dogs could use to jump up on the bed (don't want them
to hurt their backs). Also, the bed clothes would be fairly plain and cotton
(better to launder and get clean). The dogs enjoy sleeping under the covers
and in the bed as much as the Master does. Sheer curtains over the windows,
yes I'm one of those dreaded morning people who actually enjoy watching
the sunrise!!
A basket full of yarns for my crocheting would be
by a pair of wingback chairs, found in a cozy sitting area. Of course,
they would be covered by blankets to protect them from the dog hair.
As for the rest, build in bookcases on two walls,
in one corner a computer area and a small, but powerful, stereo. Kinds
of books?? Almost as eccletic as the music - a little of everything with
the science fiction/fantasy genre slightly over represented. Musical selections
would range from classical to cutting edge (some things are better done
with the right kind of background music).
Decorations include several prints of my dogs as
well as photos taken at shows. (Something about the harem visiting a dog
show/sheepdog trial keeps running around in my brain - anybody allergic
to dog hair??) A fair collection of hedgehogs round out the knick knacks.
And a storage ottoman for all the dog toys.
My room is on the fifth floor. The walls are white,
the colour comes from the furniture, throw pillows, and bedding. The bed
is on one corner near the windows. The sheets are dark green and the comforter
is a mix of dark red, blue, and green. There are a number of large pillows
scattered about the floor. (I happen to like sitting on the floor) I have
my stereo system and TV set up in a corner opposite the windowed wall to
keep the sun off. My music and video collection can be found there as well.
The ensuite bathroom is off the wall opposite the bed along the windowed
wall. The bath is huge, lots of space for four or a very cozy eight. There’s
also a shower with two shower heads (I love those) in one corner. The bathroom
windows are more translucent than transparent but the room is still very
bright. The toilet and sink area is partitioned from the rest of the room.
The walk-in closet takes up the remaining width. There is a three direction
full length mirror in the closet as well as a dressing table. The space
below the windows is taken up by book shelves which are full to overflowing.
There is a smattering of classics such as Jane Austen, Sir Arthur Conan
Doyle, and Thackeray but the bulk is science fiction with some mysteries,
spy novels, and romance for variety.

When you walk into the bedroom what you first notice
across the long expanse of thick deep lavender carpet is a large marble
fireplace. Above the fireplace is an oil painting of 1 black and 1 dapple
Arabian peacefully grazing in a meadow. Right under the painting
on the mantle is an mixture of knick knacks ranging from teddybears, carousel
horses, and white tigers. In front of the fireplace are two overstuffed
chairs. They are the same creamy off-white as the walls with bold
slashes of blue and lavender. To the right of the fireplace are french
doors leading onto a balcony overlooking one of the many flowerbeds on
the Castle grounds.
To your left you see a light walnut entertainment
center. The stand is in the middle of the wall. In the center
is a 27" tv to the right are three shelves contain the vcr, stereo and
a five disc cd changer. If you open the drawers on the bottom you
will see a large collection of video tapes. A door on the right side
opens to show a mixture of cd's ranging from club music, metal, oldies,
classic rock, and country. At both corners of the walls are floor to ceiling
curio cabinets containing hundreds of horse statues in all different colors,
breeds, and positions.
When you look to the right your eyes first settle
on the queen size captains bed. The frame is the same light walnut
as the entertainment center. In the headboard on the shelves are
books of various subjects scattered about, and an assortment of creams,
magazines, and other odds and ends. On the bed is a fluffy down comforter
with the same print as the chairs with lots of big throw pillows.
In the center are my two cats cuddled together sleeping peacefully. Next
to the bed on the right is a large windowseat. The window itself
bows out overlooking a lake in the distance. It also creates a cozy
niche in which I spend most of my time reading and gazing out the window.
There is a small tiled spot to rest a coffee mug without damaging the wood.
The best part of the window seat is the recessed bookshelves on one wall.
It provide easy access to the many books I have without having to go far
to get them. On the last wall that you see there are two doors. The
1st one leads to a dressing area connected to a walk in closet. Along
one wall is a large vanity table that hold my various nail polishes, makeup
and other essential necessities. There is a pale peach counter that spans
the entire wall. In the middle of the counter is an off white sink.
The wall above the counter is a big mirror that makes the room seems much
larger then it is. On the counter you see peach votive candles, a
soap dish, and a little bits of clutter spread across its length. Opposite
of the sink is a walk-in closet with lots of shelves, and clothes hung
in no sense of order. On the floor is a shoe rack with tons of shoes,
sneakers, and boots.
The 2nd door leads to the bathroom with tiled floors
and peach throw rugs. A big off white jazzuzi occupies most of the
bathroom. A linen closet containing fluffy peach towels all neatly
arranged in the shelves and miscellanous shampoos and bottles from bath
and bodyworks. A toilet with a peach lid cover sits in a little alcove
and located over it is one of those over the toilet space savers with jars
of various sizes and shapes some empty and others filled with potpourri.
Feel free to visit anytime.
The door opened into the center of a large bedroom
decorated in blues and tans. The carpet was a thick beige pile. A kingsized
canopied fourposter pencil bed in a lustrous warm brown birchwood was to
the right of the door centered on the wall occuping one end of the room.
It was covered with a blue and beige quilt worked in a Lone Star pattern
and the edges of a thick light blue comforter peeked out from under the
quilt. It was a high bed and a two step stool was placed at the end of
one side. A double set of large fluffy pillows sat at the head of the bed
and a set of dark blue velvet curtains were tied at each post. Side tables
stood on either side of the bed with a lamp, clock, and several books on
the left side of the bed. At the foot of the bed was a cedar chest. Adjacent
to the door on the right was a triple dresser. On the opposite wall a low
bookshelf ran from the corner of the room for approximately 12 feet. On
top of the far end of the bookshelf was a 19 inch TV on a swivel stand
and nested in the bookshelves was a CD and tape audio system.
At the other end of the room was a small sitting
area arranged in a square with a long couch and an overstuffed velvet rocker/
recliner occupying two sides. A huge six by eight foot window seat big
enough for several people to recline in was cushioned and full of pillows
and made up the third side of the square while the fourth was comprised
of a double set of floor to ceiling bookcases with a fireplace set between
them. The twin casement windows stood easily seven feet high in the windowseat
with large pewter handcranks visible at the bottom. Looking out from the
window the lake could be seen through the trees. The bookcase next to the
windowseat housed a computer system in half of its cabineted bottom section
and a sink and small refrigerator in the other. Entries to the closet and
bathroom could be seen on this wall and the twin set of glass doors for
the fireplace opened to toward the couch on one side or the bathroom on
the other side of the wall.
The bathroom was carpeted in a thick blue pile. Twin
sinks were raised slightly higher that the vanity that separated them and
spanned one wall reaching to the platform for the L shaped jacuzzi tub.
A small upholstered vanity chair was tucked under waiting to be used. A
divided area shielded the toilet and a 4 by 6 shower with twin heads.
It was the room of her dreams that she had designed
for a house built 5 years ago and Methos had recreated it in almost every
detail.
