Week 3
July 13-17

It isn't for everyone and not just anyone is selected.  It has taken twelve years to finally be accepted and attend, but I'm proud to say, "Here I am."

Saturday, 7/11/98 and Sunday, 7/12/98
Had the Grunge Boys up for the weekend.  Went out for some wings and brews Friday night.  Saturday, took a trip around the area to give them a sense of what W.MD is like.  Steak and Shrimp for dinner (yours truly was the Chef).  After all the laundry was washed, we left the mountains about 11AM Sunday morning.  Stopped at Antietam and Gettysburg Battlefields.  Had to give the Boys a history lesson.  Back around 9:30 PM.  Decent trip back to the Academy.  Get in the room, unpack, make the bed.  Long day, won't take much to get to sleep this night!

Monday, 7/13/98
Up at 5:15 AM and back on the track.  Couldn't get into the swing or things.  Jogged/walked 2 miles.  Full day with Eff Comm, Deadly Force, Budget and Abnormal Behavior.  Went to MCX and picked up some items, including a coffee maker.  Roomy decided he needed coffee RIGHT NOW! not later.  Did the coffee shop deal again and bought Uncle Harold B-day card (99 years old!).  Worked on some papers back in the room after checking 45 emails!  Love them cards and letters, folks!

Tuesday, 7/14/98
No running this morning.  Didn't sleep too good.  Must be that mocha cappuccino in the evening.  Feels like building maintenance cranked up the A/C AGAIN.  They keep this up, Chief's just going to have to understand that extra sweatshirt or long sleeve uniform shirt I need to buy.  Green, of course.  Fill out travel vouchers.  Wow, the City gets almost $90 back! Marines are out playing their games.  Hear a jet making some low passes over head.  At least, I HOPE they're the Marines.  Lunch then Budget in the Computer Based Training Unit and PT for the last class of the day.  Oohrah!  More running!  Just what I wanted in 90 degree heat and 150% humidity.  Drink enough fluids now to float an aircraft carrier.  Got to get started on some other projects tonight.

Wednesday, 7/15/98
Long day.  Go to this class, go to that.  Behavior, Forensics, Budget.  Run a little in the afternoon to try and get limbered up and "climatized" for the Challenge run tomorrow.  Take trip into D.C. to the Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial.  Little ceremony and wreath laying.  Call out fallen Brother - Deputy David Livengood, Garrett Co, MD, Sheriff's Office.  Killed line of duty, 1/8/79.  May he rest in peace.  Afterwards, time to check out the sights.  The Grunge Boys and I head off to Alexandria, VA to "Union Street".  Yep, that's the name of the pub.  Great food!  Good atmosphere.  I can see this happening again!  Back to Quantico and in bed by "around" midnight.  Best get a good night's sleep for the run.

Thursday, 7/16/98
Up by 0630, breakfast, to the computer lab with only time to check, not send, mail.  Off to Forensics.  Explosives and TWA Flight 800.  Amazing what they can do!  Challenge run.  2.5 miles OOHRAH!  AnneMarie kicked my butt in the run.  And she was carrying the section's flag!  Oh, well, I finished.  Lunch, no computer lab till after 7PM.  Deadly Force and Budgets.  Then - the First Speech for Effective Communications.  What a hoot!  Can YOU say M-A-T-I-A-S-O-V-S-K-Y?  How about B-R-A-T-I-S-L-O-V-I-A-?  Well, that's Igor's last name, where he's from and that's what your's truly had to pronounce!  UNDER PRESSURE!  After the class had given their speeches of introduction, we adjourned and traveled a couple of miles to the local Pizza Hut and indulged ourselves.  What a great time!  Back around 8:30PM and sat in "Crossroads Lounge" to listen to the "Free Agents".  Some local FBI Instructors that have a "group" and sing Folk, Country, and other music.  Fantastic!  Even did one of my favorites, Gordon Lightfoot and the "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald".  Update this page and it's OFF TO BED!  Can't wait for Friday.  PT in AM along with Legal Issues and I'm out of here.  Hopefully, lunch with daughter and eldest son in Gaithersburg.  Then home to my OWN BED!

Friday, 7/17/98
Up and at it around 0630.  Couldn't wait to get on the road and see the kids.  Lunch in Gaithersburg.  Mandy looks good and getting ready to go back to WSU.  JR had to show me his new car.  Kid must make more than me!  Up home by 4:15PM and picked up the youngest.  Did odd chores around the house (laundry) Friday night.  Ahhhh, sleep in my own bed!
