These fruity pictures were painted on 1/8" wooden shims, which can be purchased from your local lumberyard, but if you're extra thrifty, you can probably find some laying in the trash pile on a construction site! Just walk up to someone working and ask if you can look through the scraps!
I then coated them in an interior house paint, let dry, and used a stencil for the Sunflower picture. The Grapes and Watermelon I drew free-handed by looking at magazine pictures, then painted then with Crafting paint and covered with Clear Coat. I used a small piece of rope for the hanger, tied knots in each end and stapled them on the back. These were just too easy! These are hanging on the back of my house, on the patio. I tried to make my patio like another room of my house, so it's only expected that there would be pictures hanging on the "walls"!
Stencils are wonderful to have around the house... you can add stencil-work to all kinds of stuff! Your husband will be amazed! (Not necessarily over-joyed, but amazed.)
