Course Description and Content:  CIS 2150 covers the implementation, administration, and troubleshooting of Windows 2000 Server as a member server in an Active Directory domain. CIS 2150 addresses the foundational competencies for the Microsoft MCSE 70-215 core certification exam. 

Course Objectives:  Upon successful completion this course, in a Windows 2000 Server environment, the student will be able to:

  • Install Windows 2000 Server by performing:

  • An attended installation

  • An unattended installation

  • An upgrade from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server

  •  Install, configure, and troubleshoot access to resources including:

  • Network services such as DHCP, DNS, and WINS

  • Distributed File System

  • Security on files and folders

  • Network access to files and folders

  • Printers

  • Web Services

  • Configure and troubleshoot hardware devices and drivers

  • Manage, monitor, and optimize system performance, reliability, and availability including:

  • System Monitor

  • Task Manager

  • The START command

  • Disk Defragmenter

  • Logs and Alerts

  • Backup and restore

  • Perform system recovery and protection including:

  • Startup options

  • Recovery console

  • Manage, configure, and troubleshoot storage use including:

  • Basic and dynamic disks

  • Compression

  • Disk quotas

  • Fault tolerance

  • Configure and troubleshoot Windows 2000 network connections including:

  • Routing and Remote Access (RRAS)

  • Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)

  • Network protocols, adapters, and services

  • Terminal Services

  • Implement, monitor, and troubleshoot security including:

  • Encrypting File System (EFS)

  • Local, System, and Group Policy

  • User profiles

  • Auditing

  • Local user accounts

  • Account Policy

Required Materials:  Textbook, materials for taking notes, and one three-brad folder or notebook

 

Requirements and Evaluation:  The student is responsible for reading the assigned chapters from the text and completing labs and homework assignments. The grade for the course is based on the scores from tests, labs, quizzes, and a final exam. Any homework is counted as bonus points. The student must achieve a course average of 60 or better to pass this course and a grade of 70 or better for this course to serve as a prerequisite for another Computer Information Systems (CIS) course.
