THE DIARY - January
Tuesday, January, 1, 1878
I went to Press KESTER’s and brought my mare to the stable. I paid Press sixteen dollars which made us even. Wm HAUGER paid me three dollars and a half. Wm FRAIKS and John SCOTTs accts. I let Wm BAILEY have some med for Press. I let Wm HAUGER have some med. I went to Cornelius ALBEES To see his little girl. I sent James BEAUCHAMP some med. I commenced boarding at David WIERs. I went to the Christian Church to a concert by the Middletown Choir and a temperence speech by D.T. MORGAN. It was a fair day.
Wednesday, January 2, 1878
S. ELLIOTT put four shoes on my mare. I went to the Baptist Church to Temperance meeting. I gave the Society 10 cents. It was a little cloudy.
Thursday, January 3, 1878
I settled with Wm HAUGER and owed him seventeen dollars and ten cents. I sent a letter to E.S. GAILLARD containing three dollars for which he was to send me his Bi-weekly Journal. I sent an order to BUNTIN and ARMSTRONG for med. the order contained twenty dollars. I paid B.H. DIX fifty cents for ink, envelopes and stamps. I let Mary Ann FRAIKS have some med. I went to Dave WIERs to an Oyster supper. I went to Sarah LISTONs to singing. The med cost seventeen dollars and BUNTIN and ARMSTRONG sent me a receipt for twenty dollars. It was a fair day.
Friday, January 4, 1878
I sent Mont STEVENS wife some med. Wm EATON brought me some corn for his acct. I sold Riley POGUE 25 cents worth of med for his child. Jennings BURGESS put a drawer in the counter for me. I let Tom STEVENS have some med. James McHUGH gave Wm HAUGER his note for Alvin MEADEs acct. I allowed Jennings 25 cents on acct. for putting a drawer in the counter for me. It snowed most of the day. The snow got to be about 2 inches.
Saturday, January 5, 1878
I let Polly Ann HARMON have some med. I went to Riley POGUEs to see Nettie. I sent Mont STEVENS some med for Charley. I let James BEAUCHAMP have some med. John M. WATSON paid Wm HAUGER 12.50 cents the acct I held against him: and HAUGER kept the same for his percent on what he had collected for me. Wm PADDOCK paid him three dollars and he kept that also. I went to the Christian church to hear CASTLE Preach. It was a fair day.

I let Riley POGUE have some med for Nettie. I went to the Christian church to hear CASTLE A.M. and at night. It was a fair day.
Monday, January 7, 1878
Cal HANLY paid me 3.25 cents on a not I held against him. I went to Johnithan KIRKHAMs to see his wife. I paid 25 cents for an alphabet for Lois KESTER. I went to the Christian church to hear CASTLE. I took my clothes to Sallie FRAIKS to have them washed. It was a clear day.

James BEAUCHAMP paid me twenty dollars on acct. I paid Rebecca WIER two dollars and fifty cents board which made us even until noon today. I went to Press KESTERs a few minutes. I sent Jack HARMONs wife some med. I went to the Christian church to hear CASTLE. It was a fair day.

I let Wm BAILEY have some med for Press. I sent David KILIAN some med. I sent Hiram GRIFFIN some med. S.C. RYNERSON paid me three dollars Henry FINTONs account. I let Mary Ann FRAIKS have some med for her mother. I went to Temperance meeting & also to the C. Church to hear CASTLE. It was a fair day.

I let Johnithan KIRKHAM have some med for his wife. I mailed J.M. SCUDDER a letter containing two dollars for which he was to send me his medical journal. I went to Press KESTERs to supper. I went from there to the christian church to hear CASTLE Preach at night. It was cloudy rained a little.
Friday, January 11, 1878
I pulled a tooth for Charles POWERS. I let David POUND have some med for his wife. I let Cornelius ALBEE have some med for his little girl. Riley POGUE paid me two dollars on acct. I sent Homer MORGANs child some med. I went to the Christian Church to hear CASTLE. I sold Stephen BRIDWELL twenty five cents worth of med. It was a fair day.

I sold Amos ELLIOTT ten cents worth of med. I let Riley MORGAN have some med for his son. I went to the Christian church to hear CASTLE. It was a fair day.
Sunday, January 13, 1878
I paid A.J. HARMON fifty cents in money and fifty cents on account for stable rent for the last month. I sold him ten cents worth of med. I let John McCARTY have some med. I went to the Christian church A.M. and at night. I gave the Church twenty five cents. I went to Milt HUNTs burying. Isaac BEAUCHAMP paid me elven dollars and a half on acct. It rained most of the day.
Monday, January 14, 1878
I let Willie LANE have some med for Melvin. I went to Tom CRUMMs to see Hester. He lived in Illinois just across from the mouth of Prairie Creek. I went to the Christian Church P.M. and at night. I went to a baptism P.M. It was a cloudy day.
Tuesday, January 15, 1878
I paid B.H. DIX twenty five cents for a broom. I paid Rebecca WIER two dollars and a half board. I let Amos ELLIOTT have some med for which he repaired a breast pin for me that belonged to miss WIER. J.B. WATSON paid me two dollars and fifty cents Richard WATSONs acct. I sold Press NASH ten cents worth of med. It cleared up A.M.

I let Tom STEVENS have some med. I let Squire FRAIKS have some med. Press KESTER paid me fifty cents which made us even up to date. I let Wm HAUGER have some med. I went to the Christian church to night meeting. It cleared up A.M. it was fair P.M.

I let B.H. DIX have some med for Oscar for which he let me have a box of blacking. I sold Isaac BEAUCHAMP ten cents worth of med. I pulled a tooth for Marion KIRKHAM. I went to night meeting to hear CASTLE. It was a fair day.

MORGAN came for me before meeting was over and I went to see Francis and spent the remainder of the night there until five o'clock A.M. It was rainy.

I came home from Chart MORGANs. I let Solomon HAUGER have some med for Bennie. I sold Jack HARMON five cents worth of med. I let Johnithan KIRKHAM have some med for his wife. I went to Chart MORGANs to see Francis. I went to the Christian chruch to night meeting to hear CASTLE. I let James HAUGER have some med. I mailed a letter to E.S. GAILLARD M.D. containing three dollars for his journal this year. It was a rainy day.

I sent Emily PIETY some med. I went to the Baptist church to hear CUPPY and CARR. Wm HAUGER paid me twenty five cents for med he got a few days ago. It was a cloudy day.
