THE DIARY - August

I went to Emily PIETYs to see her. I went to Charley McDONALDs to see his wife. I took dinner at Press KESTERs and we went to Hartford to hear D.W. VORHEES deliver a speech. I went to Clem STEVENS to see Ed. I let Clem STEVENS wife have some med. I handed Emma ten dollars. Emma handed five dollars back to me that I had let her have. It was a little rainy.

Friday, August 2, 1878

I went to Emily PIETYs to see her. I let Albert ELLIOTT have some med. I let Hiram GRIFFIN have some med for Alice. Alf WELTON paid me fifty cents on acct. I sent Early PIETY some med. Perry WILLIAMS sent me four dollars and a half by John CLOUSE. I let Katie TRUEBLOOD have some med. I let Chart MORGAN have some med. I went to James KIRBYs to see Rube WHITLEYs wife. I let Mary Ann FRAIKS have some med. It was a fair day.

Saturday, August 3, 1878

I sent Ed STEVENS some med. I let Lot TAYLOR Jr. have some med. I went to Joe DAVISes and his wife paid me six dollars Joes acct. I let Leander WILSONs wife have some med for Joe. Prince ALLEN paid me fifty cents on acct. I let Elijah PIETY have some med for himself & Edith. Z.J. HUNT paid me three dollars and a quarter on acct. Stephen BRIDWELL paid me two dollars and thirty five cents on acct. James HAUGER paid me five dollars on the ten he borrowed of [off] me last (month?). I went to Chart MORGANs to see him. I let V. MORGAN have some med for Fred. It was a fair day.

Sunday, August 4, 1878

I sold Albert LYTLE seventy five cents worth of med for his girl. I let Albert ELLIOTT have some med. Leander WILSON paid me eleven dollars and seventy five cents on a note I held against him. I sent Edgar STEVENS some med. I went to Charley MULLENs to see his wife. I stopped at Hiram GRIFFINs to see him. John BROWN paid me five dollars on a note I held against him. I sold Tom BEAUCHAMP fifty cents worth of med. I let Elijah PIETY have some med for Edith. I went to Chart MORGANs to see him. It was a fair day.

Monday, August 5, 1878

I let Jordan THOMAS have some med. I let Jack HARMONs wife have some med. I sent Riley LISTONs wife some med. I went to Early PIETYs and he paid me twenty five dollars his mothers acct. I let Early PIETY have some med. I let Mont STEVENS have some med. Theodore HANDY paid me twenty dollars on acct. I went to Chart MORGANs to see him. I sold Milton YEAGER fifty cents worth of med. It was a fair day.

Tuesday, August 6, 1878

I went to John HUNTs to see his son. I Sold Tom BEAUCHAMP forty cents worth of med. I let Elijah PIETY have some med for himself & wife. I let Press NASH have some med for his wife. I let Joe THOMAS have some med. I bargained for a grey mare with J.W. CLARK. I had Amanda HARMON and Mary Ann FRAIKS to scrub out the office. I pulled a tooth for Dick WATSON. I let Adam BUTLER have some med for Roy. I also sold him twenty five cents worth of med. It was a fair day.

Wednesday, August 7, 1878

I sold thirty five cents worth of med. I let Orlandorf KIRCHIVAL have some med. I let Charley MULLEN have some med for his wife. I paid J.W. CLARK $5.45 cts in money. $18.00 on acct against Wm PADDOCK. $4.80 cts note & acct against himself. $15.90 in a note against Frank CLARK. $2.10 cts in a note against Alonzo KIRKHAM. $8.75 cts a note against Isaac RYNERSON for a grey mare. I went to Press KESTERs and turned Nannie on pasture. I paid Amanda HARMON fifty cents for yesterdays work. I went to Jane ERNESTs and drove my grey mare to a (sulkey?). I let Alf WELTON have some med for his baby. I went to S. ELLIOTTs to see Albert. I went to Thomas MONTGOMERYs to see Ellen. I let Press KESTERs wife have some med. It was a fair day.

Thursday, August 8, 1878

I went to Terre Haute to get things to go to Housekeeping. S. ELLIOTT and Riley LISTON hauled them down for me. Hamilton TAYLORs wife paid me one dollar on a note I hold against him. McCagah COLLINS paid me ten dollars on a note I held against him. I let CHOWNING have some med. I let James FRAIKS have some med for his mother. I paid fifty five cents for dinner for Emma, my horse & myself. I sent B. & A. some M.T. Qt. Bottles. I also left one order for some med & paid them two dollars. I paid $83.50 cts for things to go to housekeeping with. I let CHOWNING have some med. Emma & I went up in Press KESTERs buggy. It rained some P.M.

Friday, August 9, 1878

C.C. ERNEST paid me three dollars and twenty cents on a note I held against him. I sold V. MORGAN forty cts worth med for Markoe. Nannie DIX paid me fifty cents for med & on acct. I let John HUNT have some med for Jabe. Orlandorf KIRCHEVAL paid me fifty cents on acct. I sold Alvin MEADE fifty cents worth of med. Amos ELLIOTTs wife paid me ten cents on acct. I paid 65 cts for four barrel, & broom & gallon stone jar. Press KESTER brought me (?) Pounds of flour. I let Press have some med for Lois. James LOVELACE paid me fifty five cents for med & on acct. I paid thirty cents for buttons & thread. We went to housekeeping in the house I had occupied as an office. It rained some.

Saturday, August 10, 1878

I let James HAUGER have some med. I sent Roy BUTLER some med. I let Charles KING have some med. I let Press KESTER have some med. James RICE made me a dough board for which I agreed to allow him fifteen cents on acct. I let Wm HAUGER have some med for Linn. I paid $1.80 cts for hatchet & groceries. I let Wm HAUGER have some med for Linn. It was a rainy day.

Sunday, August 11, 1878

I sent Hiram GRIFFIN some med. I let Riley MORGAN have some med. I went to the Christian Church A.M. & P.M. I gave the church five cents. I went to W.D. WIERs awhile P.M. I went to Wm HAUGERs to see Linn. It was a fair day.

Monday, August 12, 1878

I sold Wesley JOHNSON fifty cents worth of med. I let Thomas MONTGOMERY have some med for himself & Ellen. I went to Press KESTERs awhile P.M. I let his wife have some med. I paid one dollar and twenty five cents for things to go to housekeeping. I paid ten cents for a watermelon. I sent BUNTIN & ARMSTRONG an order for some med. The order contained five dollars. I let John DEVOLs wife have some med for Clara. I let Mary Ann FRAIKS have some med for her mother. It was a clear day.

I went to Press KESTERs to see his wife. I let James BOWANs wife have some med for Fred. I went to Samuel BURNAMs to see him and his wife. I stopped at Adam BUTLERs and let Roy have some med. I let Rube WHITLEYs wife have some med for her baby. I went to John HUNTs to see Jabe. I paid twenty cts for fish. It was a fair day.

Wednesday, August 14, 1878

I paid thirty five cents for mutton. I paid ten cents for a fire shovel. I went to Press KESTERs. I let his wife have some med. I let Press KESTER have some med. I let David KILIAN have some med for himself & boy. I sent Hugh McBRIDE some med. I went to S. ELLIOTTs to see Cora STEVENs. I let Cate CORNELL have some med for Floy. I sold Theo HANDY twenty five cts worth of med. I let W.D. WIER have some med. I lanced Linn HAUGERs jaw. Marion KIRKHAM hauled me a load of hay from Ebb LLOYDs for which I allowed Marion one dollar on acct. It was a fair day.

I let Tom ETHRIDGE have some med for his wife. I went to Mrs. DOWELLs to see Mrs. BRYANT. I stopped a few minutes at Press KESTERs. I let Press KESTER have some med. I let Chart MORGAN have some med for himself & wife. I gave Floy CORNELL twenty five cents. I paid twenty cents for a stone jar. I let Stephen BRIDWELL have some med. I let Early PIETY have some med for Ophelia. I sent John BROWN some med. I let Colonel FARRAND have some med for his son. I paid ten cents for a watermelon. It was a little cloudy.

I let Ransom TRUEBLOOD have some med. I went to Clem STEVENS to see Ed's wife. I let Mont STEVENS wife have some med for Edgar. I went to Adam BUTLERs to see him & Ida & Roy. I sent Dan FRAIKS some med. I went to Press KESTERs awhile P.M. I paid thirty five cents for Coal oil & needles. I sold Rebecca WIER twenty five cents worth of med. It was a fair day.

I went to Milton PIETYs to see him & his wife. I sold John DEVOL ten cents worth of med. I went to Adam BUTLERs to see him & Ida. I went to Press KESTERs awhile. I let Tom STEVENS have some med. I let James HAUGER have some med. I let S.M. GAPEN have some med for his wife. I went to Sunday School. I gave the school five cents. It was a fair day.

I let Ben DeBAUN have some med for his wife. I went to John DEVOLs to see Frank & Arthur. It rained a little.

I sent Rube WHITLEYs child some med. I sent Isa LISTON some med. Amos ELLIOTT paid me five cents for med. I went to Press KESTERs awhile. I went to John DEVOLs to see Frank. I stopped a few minutes at Philip TURNERs. I let John BROWN have some med. I let Will SHOEMAKER have some med. I went to Hiram ROSWELLs to see Myrtle. I paid eleven cents and a half a pound for $1.20 cts worth of meat. I sent Arthur DEVOL some med. It was a fair day.

I went to Tom STEVENS to see him. I let Charley KING have some med. I paid five cents for butter. I agreed to allow Wm GARDNER fifteen cents on acct for melons I got of [off] him today. I let M.H. PIETY have some med for Ozza. It was a fair day.

Friday, August 23, 1878

I went to John DEVOLs to see his wife & Arthur & Frank & Josie. I went to Hiram ROSWELLs to see his wife. I let Hugh McBRIDE have some med. I let Riley LISTON have some med for Anna. I went to Henry FRAIKS to see his wife. I sold Henry 50 cents worth of med. J.W. & I. TURNER spent the day with me. I let Charley DEVOL have some med. I sent Amos ELLIOTT some med. I let Chart MORGAN have some med for a horse. It was a little cloudy.

I went to Wm STRANAHANs and his wife paid me seven dollars and a half a note & on account I hold against him. I let Jennings BURGESS have some med. I let Amos ELLIOTT have some med. I went to Press KESTERs & left Nannie on pasture & brought Tollie away. It was a fair day.

I paid Mary WEEKS five cents for butter. I let Tom STEVENS have some med for July. I let Thomas MONTGOMERY have some med for Ellen. Wm JOHNSON paid me 25 cts on acct. I went to Perry WILLIAMS and Tom STEVENS trying to buy hogs(?). I went to Wm FRAIKS to see him. I stopped at Philip TURNERs and let him have some med. I sent Owen FISHBACK some med. I let Gilbert DEVOL have some med. I let Charley DEVOL have some med. I went to Wm ELLIOTTs to see him. I let Polly Ann HARMON have some med. I let George COPLAN have some med. I paid twenty five cents for paper envelopes & c. It was a fair day.

I let Sallie FRAIKS have some med. I let Amos ELLIOTT have some med. I went to John DEVOLs to see Frank. I went to Clay TRUEBLOODs to see Owen FISHBACK. I handed Emma two dollars. I paid WIER & ELLIOTT one dollar and forty cents for fruit cans. I let W.D. WIER have some med. It was a little cloudy.

I stopped at Clay TRUEBLOODs to let Owen FISHBACK have some med. I let Hiram ROSWELL have some med for his wife. I sent B. & A. an order for some med that contained fifteen dollars. Riley MORGAN paid me seven dollars a note & acct I had against him. I went to Chart MORGANs to see Francis. I sent John HUNT some med. Crawford DOWELL paid me 5.25 cts Cate CORNELLs acct. Rube WHITLEY paid me six dollars on acct. I went to Hiram GRIFFINs to see him & Sarah & Clara. I went to James CUTSINGERs to see Duck & Roe. It was a fair day.

I let Wm HAUGER have some med for Edna. Dan FRAIKS brought me two chickens. I let Jack ROMINE have some med for his sister. I paid Amos ELLIOTT thirty three dollars in money & allowed him three dollars on acct as rent on the house I live in. I paid Amos twenty five cents for a joint of stove pipe. I let Chart MORGAN have some med for him & Francis. I let Clara DEVOL have some med. I let David POUND have some med. I let Jennings BURGESS have some med. I let Amos ELLIOTTs wife have some med.
