Harmony Masonic Lodge No.22 A.F.M. News Letter for month of June 2003

I hope this letter finds you all having a great start to the summer. On April 24 and 25 I traveled to Myrtle Beach to attend out Grand Lodge, which was held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

Our Grand Master gave his State of Craft address; in that address he stated that we had a net lost of 1,267 members, 1,100 out of 1,267 were due to non-payment of dues, but feels that interest in masonry is trending upward. Our Grand Master also stated that the Grand Lodge of South Carolina is suffering financially due to loss of Per Capita from dues paying members of the Lodges, which is the only guaranteed source of income for the operation of Grand Lodge. The Per Capita that each Lodge pays on Dues paying members is $10.00 per year. However $4.00 of this is for relief for our “destitute” Widows and members, leaving only $6.00 for the operation of Grand Lodge. This is very small compared to most other Grand Jurisdictions. From the report of the Finance Committee, “Last year Grand Lodge (the membership) failed to pass a $5.00 per capita increase, consequently Grand Lodge is forced to continue to deplete it’s limited reserves, which will lead to the insolvency of our Fraternity in South Carolina.” They also asked at this communication, for $1.05 per member in order to balance the budget, this was also defeated. All of the Resolution proposed last year were defeated this year.

Brethren, your Grand Lodge needs the support of its membership in these trying times, If you would like to assist in this by making a donation to your Grand Lodge, Please send it to our secretary, Kevin Ennis with a note designating it for Grand Lodge. He will record the same and it will be forwarded to the Grand Lodge. Remember, we the Masters & Wardens of the Lodges are Grand Lodge. If you would like more information on the Grand Lodge proceedings please feel free to contact me via e-mail at: krob@islc.net and I will do my best to answer your questions. Your new Junior Grand Warden is Rt/Wor. Barry Rickman, with the other officers Gerald Carver, Senior Grand Warden, and Ronald Mitchum, Deputy Grand Master.

Brothers I know from experience that trying to come up with money for dues around the holidays is hard, if you can pay your dues early please do so. If you are behind on your dues please contact our secretary W/B Kevin Ennis to make payment arrangements, but please keep your dues up to date, we will work with you any way we can.

I would like to thank all those that attended the Master Mason’s Degree held May 10, 2003; at 9:00 AM after breakfast at 8:00AM, we raised Brother Ed Michaels to the Master Masons Degree. I would like to thank the Past Masters from Harmony and Port Royal Lodges, for performing the degree work, it was a real treat to see our Past Masters do such nice work. I also would like to thank our cooks WB Laurence Laughlin and WB David Kozak for preparing a wonderful breakfast. Brother Mark Henderson did a fine job coaching brother Michaels in the return on his Fellow Craft Degree.

Again congratulation to Brother Ed Michaels for a job well done we all wish you great success on your Masonic journey.
