NoHoch Nah Chich
This was our first year diving Nohoch. After a 40 minute hike through the jungle over a rough and rocky path, we arrived at a cenote that was 35ft below ground level. The cavern area extends back under the rock giving a nice exiting view from the dives. Our tanks were hauled in by donkeys the day before our dive and our gear was carried in the same way while we walked to Nohoch.
Our first dive was up the main line about 2300ft penetration. We stopped off at the opening to the surface (photo below) that is located at the 300ft styrofoam cup on the main line. On our exit, we stopped off at the cenote off of the main line. This cenote has a platform with a ladder going up to the small hole in the ceiling of the cavern. Our second dive, we took the first jump to the left and then took the next jump to the left. We then returned to that line to go up to Parker's line. We were limited on our 2nd dive since we used one set of tanks for both dives. The maximum depth for both dives was 20 feet.
I was pleased to see limited damage to NoHoch and was told that the owners do not allow snorklers to wear fins while in the cenote and cavern. Also with NoHoch being closed to the public for the past few years, it has protected this beautiful cave system. There are 18 photos on this page, but the download is worth the wait.
We have a 2 hr and 15 min digital video of our 2 dives at NoHoch
available at Cavex2 Productions.
