Minotauro
Minotauro has a gorgeous cenote. There is an island effect with the rock formation in the center of the cenote. There are downstream passages on one side of the cenote and we dove the upstream passages. This was one of my favorite dives. The breakdown has to be seen to be believed. The halocline in this cave on the main circuit was incredible. The fallen stalactites were huge and littered the floor of the passages at 45 degree angles and some were even on their sides. The maximum depth was 46 feet and the water temperature was 75 degrees. I had a hard time concentrating on the beauty of the cave because I kept thinking what it took for the floors of the passages to collapse on the lower passages causing the larger rooms. Mother Nature definitely left this gem behind for cave divers to admire and we need to protect something as fragile and beautiful as this system. This cave will be one of the main reasons I return to Mexico in 2001.
