Peacock Springs

Peacock Springs park is north of the Suwannee River east of Luraville, Florida. The cave system at Peacock Springs connects Peacock 1 spring with Olsen Sink, Challenge Sink, Cisteen Sink and Orange Grove Spring. Peacock 3 is a seperate syphon cave system. Lower Orange Grove Spring is a deeper section of the Peacock system. Upper Orange Grove passages connect to Challange Sink. Peacock 3 has a deep section called Hendley's Castle. Bonnet Spring is also located in the park but is currently closed due to the low aquifer. Bonnet is a low silty cave and special permission is required to dive this site.
In February 2001 the system was clear and the water level in the basin was still low. Orange Grove's new stairs are completed and make it an easy entry. We dove Olsen-Cisteen circuit including the Wishbone, Peacock 3, Orange Grove and the Distance Tunnel, Olsen By Pass tunnel and the Crypt, as well as main line and peanut tunnel. The heavy rains in early April 2001 have blown out the cave system temporarily. As of the summer of 2002, scootering in Peacock Springs will no longer be allowed. Also as of early fall 2002, Olsen Sink is closed to entry for divers. Emergency exit and surfacing while continuing a dive will be allowed.

basin. As you approach the steps to Peacock 1,
the path to the right of the basin will lead
you about 200 ft to Water Hole.

Olsen Sink
Olsen Sink
Olsen Sink has an upstream and downstream
passage. Going through Olsen during a dive
is a highlight of the dive with the crystal
clear view of the trees and sky.

Orange Grove
Orange Grove Spring
Orange Grove has 2 passages, upper Orange Grove
and lower Orange Grove. Upper Orange Grove passages
lead to Challange Sink and the Distance Tunnel.
Lower Orange Grove has depths below 180ft in depth.
During our dive in April, a 3ft gator was sunning
on the rocks.

Challange Sink
Challange Sink
Challange Sink is located across the street
from the Peacock Springs park entrance.
This sinkhole is a beautiful surprise but
caution is necessary when climbing in or
out of Challange.

Challange Sink
Challange Sink
Challange Sink has upstream and downstream
passages. Upstream Challange leads to Orange
Grove while Downstream Challange leads to Olsen
Sink and Peacock 1 spring.

Peacock 3
Peacock 3
Peacock 3 is a Syphon. There is a spring tunnel
at 1200ft penetration. Hendley's Castle is the
deep section just past the spring tunnel with
depths over 200ft.

Bonnet Sprin
Bonnet Spring
Bonnet was temporarily closed due to poor
visibility. This low flow cave is small and
silty with low ceilings. This is an advanced
cave dive and is not recommended until the
diver has a great deal of experience with
small tight cave passages.

WARNING: Cave Diving is dangerous and requires extensive
training and experience. Do NOT Enter Caves
until properly trained by a certified agency.
