Windows 95 Boot Menu

Windows 95 allows you to determine the startup mode of your system each time you start. To access this feature, press F8 when you see 'Starting Windows 95...' to bring up the Start Menu.

The first two options from the start menu, allow normal Windows startup, and event logging of startup process(Makes an interesting read!???).

The options of most use are Safe mode and either of the DOS prompt modes.

Click to learn more about the Safe Mode.

The DOS prompt modes can be useful when trying to run programs that are not friendly to the Windows environments or visa-versa.

The normal DOS mode option will load some drivers you may need; your mouse, the CDROM, memory managers, etc.

The safe DOS mode will bypass your startup files and go directly to a DOS prompt. This gives you the maximum amount of free memory for DOS programs, but it does not load any device drivers, so you cannot access their functions.
