Families Like Project SEED, Too

Families Project SEED's mission is to make students more successful. Many students over SEED's almost forty-year history have commented on the positive effect of Project SEED. In addition, we also hear from the parents and families of the students we reach. They thank us verbally and with the occasional note to let us know that they too see the beneficial effect that Project SEED has on their children. Below is a letter from a parent praising the positive impact of Project SEED on her children and how it has affected their success.

Wilma J. King

Parent of two Dallas Project SEED students
(Letter written in 1996)

"I am the mother of Mack and LeCresha. My children attended Rice Learning Center approximately 13 years ago. Their mathematical journey reached a phase of enlightenment and was augmented in fourth grade (Mack 1984 and LeCresha 1986) under the direction of two energetic Project SEED staff persons. The Project SEED staff introduced, nurtured, and encouraged them to tackle the tough equations and theories. The Project SEED component of their math classes was rewarding. They soon learned that it was okay to make a mistake. The joy was learning and using the techniques. Both children continued to excel in higher level math classes upon entering secondary schools.

As a parent I saw the positive relationship between the elementary school Project SEED classes and their performance in Algebra I & II, Trigonometry, etc.. I know they lost their inhibitions and fears of math during those early years while mastering the techniques used by their "SEED" teachers. Planting a "SEED" is exactly what they did. Both children still use the techniques for problem solving in their adult life. On numerous occasions, I have verbally thanked Project SEED for their "planters." Special thanks to each staff member of Project SEED. Your seedlings are continually blooming!"
