Classroom Instruction The classroom instruction component of the program brings highly trained Project SEED mathematics specialists into full-size classes of elementary and middle school students as a supplement to their regular curriculum. The instructional methodology is a nonlecture, Socratic group-discovery format designed to guide children to discover mathematical concepts by answering a carefully planned sequence of questions posed by the SEED specialist. Higher-order mathematical topics are selected to reinforce and improve the student's critical-thinking and computational skills and to help equip them for success in future mathematics courses, both at the secondary school and university level.
Staff Development Project SEED provides training to teachers from elementary through secondary and university level in its extremely successful instructional pedagogy and in advanced mathematics curriculum. Project SEED's Socratic group discovery methodology emphasizes group discussion and mathematical dialogue and includes the use of specific techniques to maximize participation and focus in the classroom. Staff development and corporate training programs are conducted by Project SEED staff for executives, administrators, and faculty from corporations, school systems and universities. This training is aimed at improving communication and management skills in all environments.
Family Involvement Family involvement activities support the families and communities whose children we reach. Working with the families equips them to better support their children in their academic careers. Project SEED activities for families include: recognition and awards programs; workshops for parents on mathematics, problem-solving and strategies to help students succeed; and participation in school-sponsored parent and community workshops, meetings and functions. The support of parents and families plays a crucial role in the academic development and success of students.
Curriculum Development Project SEED develops its own curriculum for all classroom instruction, teacher training, staff development, corporate training and family-community workshops. The curriculum content is tailored to meet the specific instructional needs of the group being addressed. Project SEED serves as a resource to teachers, schools and districts on curriculum, mathematics and methodology.
