What's New?

Citizens
July 11th:
58 PV citizens
11 PV friends

New citizens
4 new persons were added to the list of PV citizens & friends since May 10th: Neo2, Trinity, Mike and Robfwtx - welcome all:)

Queer Square Silent
Since late June, there has been no music at Queer Square (AW 2222s 2222e). The square will from now on be a quiet corner of PV, as there is already too heavy downloads there, and anyway - you won't need to walk far to catch some music...

Bye-bye, PV3
Have you created any pict objects with a link to pv3.jpg? This jpg has been in use for pv announcements since January '97, with 3-4 updates every month. It's been hard finding new announcements for all the 3 pv-jpg's, so pv3.jpg will no longer be updated. Please check your pict.objects, and replace it with a link to pv1.jpg or pv2.jpg. The old jpg now shows "System Error"...:)

Villager Coord Hunt
Each PP issue will bring a new image - see article for details. Mail the coords to Idealist.
This location is found on Pink Island...

Gossip!
Mail Bille if you like to bring us some harmless PV gossip - text or screenshot.

Since there was no gossip for this issue, here's something else...:)

Stonewall 30th Anniversary
by Idealist

June 27th marked the 30-year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, considered to be the beginning of the modern gay and lesbian civil rights movement in the U. S. Until then, police raids of gay bars were common and went largely unchallenged. On that Friday evening in 1969 (incidentally, the day of Judy Garland's funeral), the patrons of the Stonewall Inn (in Greenwich Village, New York City), no longer surrendered to the police, but started fighting back. Since then, the silence and invisibility of GBLT individuals has transformed into a movement of pride and action, and although we are still a long way from equal rights, things have been and are changing for the better. To commemorate Stonewall, last weekend of June witnessed pride parades in cities around the world.

One World, One Flag
By Bille

July 3rd AlphaWorld's new official flag was announced at the Alpha Flag Museum. The new flag was designed by Silverdragon, who won the flag design contest that was up for the Community Festival, June 26th-27th.

AlphaWorld's new official flag was designed by Silverdragon.
The new flag comes with new flag objects, created and donated by King Tex. Flagpole.rwx is of course a flagpole - note the globe on top of it:) The double sided flag is Flag1.rwx (for horizontal flags) and Flag2.rwx for squared flags. Note that AlphaWorld's flag will appear as default, but you can also link to Pink Village's flag, or even your own JPG.

12 flag entries were voted for during the festival weekend. Some critical (male?) voices have questioned why there are only female avatars appearing on the winning flag, but who said they are female and not guys on their way to a cross dress party?:) Anyway, it's here to stay, and as part of AlphaWorld, we should be happy with it:) Those who didn't vote for any of the other 11 flags should not blame those who actually did vote:)

AlphaWorld's new flag will of course be hoistened in Pink Village, near the Town Hall, and also at both the bridges leading to Pink Island. All current 'official' flags in PV will also be replaced with the new flag objects. We'll have a PV flag party for this occation - keep an eye on the calendar for future notice:)

Villager Coord Hunt
Sponsored by Idealist for Lesbianville

Time to show how much of Pink Village you really know, or how much you want to learn! :) Join a contest of finding objects and locations inside Pink Village and Lesbianville. The contest will start at this issue (#17), and will last for the next 5 issues.

In each 6 issues of Pink Point, a JPG will appear, with a clue as to its location. If you choose to accept your mission, your job is to locate it within PV or Lesbianville, and email me the coords for where you saw the object featured in the JPG. Each week, I will send a cyber-surprise to those who emailed me the correct coords; and at the end of the contest, the one with the most correct coords will win a "Master Villager" t-shirt!

The "official" rulez are:

  • The contest is open to all PV citizens and friends as well as those not affiliated with Pink Village -- the only excluded people are the PV council members (Bille particularly is way too familiar with the place!)
  • Coordinates have to be within the range of one number, such as if the location were 2222s 2222e, acceptable ranges are 2221-2223(s) 2221-2223(e), AND/OR, the scene in the JPG has to be viewable at the submitted coordinates. I will check all submitted coords.
  • Deadline for submission is two months after the publication of the PP issue in which the JPG appears.
  • At the end of 6 rounds, if a tie exists, the winners will receive a JPG at Queer Square, featuring Master Villagers.
Go at it, and have fun! :)

How Did They Find Us?
By Bille

Have you ever wondered how our fellow PV citizens and friends found Pink Village? Here's how:

When people apply to become a citizen or friend of Pink Village, they answers a question regarding how they found PV. Based on 32 submitted applies submitted during the past year, we find that more than half the new citizens and friends were given the PV coords from a friend.

These are the results:

  • 17 persons (53,1%): "I got the coords from a friend"
  • 5 persons (15,6%): I clicked on an advertising board elsewhere in AW (not near AW GZ)"
  • 3 persons: "I can't remember or won't tell..."
  • 2 persons: "I clicked on an advertising board near AW GZ"
  • 2 persons: "I found PV's website at Geocities"
  • 2 persons: "I found PV via a LinkExchange banner"
  • 1 person: (did not check any of the alternatives)

So - networks of friends seems to be the best way to recuit people. This unformal ranking doesn't reflect whether their friends knew PV pretty well, or if they just knew the coords, but nevertheless it shows us that people like to join where their friends are, or at least that they trust their friends rather than a billboard. So keep spreading the word - friends:)

Masquerading in Pink Village
By Idealist

One of the highlights of the Active Worlds Community Festival weekend was Saturday, June 26th Pink Village's Masquerade Party, attended by lots of citizens of AW. Each party guest arrived with a fake identity, attempting to decipher who was who.

Bille had built a fabulous party hall (AW 2206s 2190e) with various masks decorating the walls.

pictures from the Community Festival.
Champagne, pina coladas, and sexual innuendo flowed as the guests tried to find a hidden pink mask amidst the fun and frolicking. The winner of the mask hunt was Belldandy, and runners up were Mindman and Scott Schendel.

Toward the end of the party, the attendees revealed their true identities while walking down a high and narrow ledge - some unnamed intoxicated ones falling off but thankfully not breaking their necks. ;-)

Any comments or contributions to Pink Point,
especially gay/lesbian- and Pink Village related stuff,
are highly appreciated!
