My music collection
Every (almost) cd I own!
My English CD Collection
Most of the cds I buy secondhand (oops! no royalties to the artists!). Below is a list of the shops I frequent.
- Ashwoods, Pitt Street, City (cheapest!)
- Lawsons, Pitt Street, City (gets new stuff often)
- Kellys (1), George Street, City (cheap!)
- Kellys (2), ??? intersection of George and Pitt where the City Convenience store is, City (not much of a selection but sometimes a rare find)
- Martin's Records, City (cheap, but also buys a lot of stuff/trade)
- Zoom, Pitt Street, City (expensive! and picky for trades. Rental cds)
- Utopia Records, George Street, City (lots of new stuff and rare stuff but not cheap)
- Red Eye Records, Pitt Street, City (lots of rare stuff and new stuff but not cheap-but they give good trades!)
(roughly in order from oldest to newly acquired)
- Superunknown (Soundgarden)
The first real 'grunge' album I ever bought! When I saw 'My Wave' I was literally blown away! And I thought Chris Cornell was hot. Then I found out he was married, to his manager no less! Cool cover and cool inlay or whatever u call it. Fave tracks:Let Me Drown, My Wave, the 'oh' bit at the start of Spoonman.
Great cover & cd inlay!
$16/Zoom
- Smash (Offspring)
'Come Out & Play' will always be my most favourite song of theirs! Fave tracks:Come Out & Play, bad habit, self esteem. But most of the songs are good.
$16/some place in Paramatta
- Trailer (Ash)
A mad album! Pubescent, girly voice-it's cool! Fave tracks: Jack Names the Planets, Petrol(is this the one that goes 'she moved closer, set my mind on fire'? Cos that's my fave Ash song!), Uncle Pat.
$10/Lawsons-then someone took it! So I had to buy it again, but I had to get it 2ndhand, so I waited for about a year!
$15/Kellys 2
- Singles (Carpenters)
I remember my mum playing this record. It's pretty much got it all.
$19.95/CD Club. I recently sold it hoping to find one with more songs-still haven't gotten one!
- I Should Coco (Supergrass)
They look like Alvin and the Chipmunks! They kick ass! Fave tracks:Caught By the Fuzz, Alright, She's So Loose, We're Not Supposed To(sounding very chipmunky indeed!)
$19/Paramatta CD Fair
- Frogstomp (silverchair)
I'm not ashamed to admit that I think they're cool! I love the cover-it looks like a gummy. Fave tracks: Israel's Son, Pure Massacre, Suicidal Dream... but I've kind of outgrown this album.
$5(!!!)/CD Club
- Tu-Plang (Regurgitator)
(I didn't really know any of the songs when I got it. Quite frankly, dear readers, I was shocked! I was so innocent back then. Fave tracks: Blubber Boy, I Sucked a Lot of Cock to Get Where I Am, Kong Foo Sing, Miffy's Simplicity, Blubber Boy.
$18/Par.CD Fair then I sold it cos I didn't want filth like that in the house(haha). $3.99/New York. I thought, my God what have I done!? So when I saw it in NY I had to get it. Bloody 6% tax!
- Dookie (Green Day)
$18? from Zoom. All their songs pretty much sound the same, so I don't think I have a fave. Probably the 'self-love' song. Fave tracks:Longview, When I Come Around, Welcome to Paradise. But most of the songs are good. They all sound the same really!
$20?/Zoom
- The Presidents of the United States of America
(or PUSA-say it pyuusa)
They are whacky and fun! Fave tracks: Lump, Body, Dune Buggy, Kitty.
I actually paid $27.40! From CD Club mail order. Oh well, at least I contributed to their income!
- Insomniac (Greed Day)
Fave tracks: Geek Stink Breath, Stuck With Me, Walking Contradiction, Babs Uvula Who?(I don't get the joke about this that I've heard so often. Is it like Uranus? Where it sounds like another word or something?). Can't remember the rest.
Again, $27.40.
- Garbage (Garbage)
One's Irish and the rest are American? Sometimes she looks nice and other times she looks like an alien! Fave tracks: Stupid Girl, Vow, Only Happy When It Rains, Queer.
She has a great way of bringing out some scary dark atmosphere. Probably cos she always whispers and stuff.
$17 from some place in Brighton le Sands.
- Weisenheimer (Custard)
They're fun like PUSA. They're Aussie! They're pretty ugly too. Saw them when they supported...PUSA! I like the cover! Fave tracks:
Apartment...can't really remember the rest. But it's not a bad album. Nice cover.
$18/Parramatta CD Fair. Then I sold it, then I did a trade for it($5).
- 1977 (Ash)
Great album! But no songwords. No piccies. Fave tracks: Goldfinger, Girl from Mars, Kung Fu.
$15/Lawsons.
- Ignition (Offspring)
This is a much better album than their two recent ones! Fave tracks: Take It Like a Man, Kick Him When He's Down, Dirty Magic, LAPD.
They've always seemed to have a thing for Indian music.
$20/Zoom.
- Nimrod (Green Day)
Always have interesting covers. Fave tracks:Hitchin' a Ride, Nice Guys Finish Last, The Grouch, Prosthetic Head, Haushinka (seems different to his usual style of singing), Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), Last Ride In (instrumental-like surf music! Very different to their usual stuff and a nice change. Shows their diversity.)
US$9.99/Joe's Cds, New York.
- Badmotorfinger (Soundgarden)
Still in his shouty, pop a vein stage, but gettin' there! Fave tracks:Outshined, Jesus Christ Pose, Slaves & Bulldozers, Searching With My Good Eye Closed. 8 Room a Thousand Years Wide reminds me of the film The Mummy! Gross picture of Chris Cornell! He looks like Aunty Jack!!!
$16/Zoom.
- Down On the Upside (Soundgarden)
Burden In My Hand, Pretty Noose, ty cobb, Blow Up the Outside World, No Attention.
$17/1997 Big Day Out(BDO)
- Ivy and the Big Apples (Spiderbait)
They are loud! They're pretty rockin'. A sense of humour too. Aussie! Fave tracks: hot water & milk, buy me a pony (inspired by Lisa Simpson!), hey, don't kill nipper('the butt-cheeks song' as I so eloquently call it), should have done what my mum always told me to.
$17/1997 BDO.
- Freakshow (silverchair)
A huge leap to a more mature (they were about 16 at the time?!) sound with evidence of experimentation with different styles. It's also refreshing to hear a natural accent. 'Onya guys!' Fave tracks: Slave, Freak, Abuse Me, Cemetery, Pop Song for Us Rejects. The whole album is pretty good though.
$20/Grumpy's (that's not the real name of the store, but the guy's a grump!)
- Abbey Road (The Beatles)
Probably one of the best albums ever!
Fave tracks: Something, Here Comes the Sun, Mean Mr. Mustard, Her Majesty. But all the songs are pretty cool!
- Tragic Kingdom (No Doubt)
How long has it been since their last album? Too bloody long! I like her bindy look. Is she still going out with that guy from Bush? I think the drummer looks ok nut I'm not sure cos there's never a really good frontal closeup shot! Fave tracks: Spiderwebs, Excuse Me Mr, Different People, Sunday Morning, Don't Speak, Tragic Kingdom. Gwen looks ugly on the cover.
$20/Grumpy's.
- Past Masters Volume 2 (The Beatles)
This collection reflects their more 'trippy' years. Fave Tracks: Daytripper, Rain, Get Back, The Ballad of John and Yoko, Old Brown Shoe.
CD Wearhouse(yes, that's how they spelt it!), Los Angeles! US$4.99
- Foo Fighters (The Foo Fighters)
Fave Tracks: This is a Call (reflects their UFO obsession! Doesn't their name have something to do with UFOs?), Alone and Easy Target, Floaty, X-Static.
Funny how Dave Grohl was in Nirvana but Foo's music is so different!
Zoom, $17.
- nest (odds)
Canadian band that Kim said was cool so I bought it cos it was cheap! Fave tracks: Someone Who's Cool, Make You Mad, Hurt Me, Night's Embrace, Say You Mean It Wondergirl.
Lawsons, $12 (!!!)
- Good Weird Feeling (odds)
Actually I have hardly listened to this-I must have gotten this about 3 years ago!!!
Kelly, $4 after trade! (originally $16)
- To the Faithful Departed (The Cranberries)
I don't think this album did very well but I think it's pretty good! I don't have any of their earlier ones tho'. Fave tracks: Hollywood, Forever Yellow Skies, Salvation. The cover is yukky-her trousers are too short and her shoes look strange.
Kellys1, $17
- Expecting to Fly (bluetones)
I heard/saw the video for 'Slight Return' and thought it was excellent. And then I found the album for cheap and got it! The rest of it is mediocre but listenable. Nice photo of a peacock on the cover. Standout track: Slight Return.
Lawsons, $10.
- Purple (Stone Temple Pilots)
I assume that it's the Chinese character for 'purple' on the cover but if you didn't know you'd be confused! Fave tracks: Meatplow, Vasoline, Interstate Love Song, Unglued. I remember thinking the singer was hot but then I saw him properly...
- Nevermind (Nirvana)
Interesting cover! Fave tracks: Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are.
Kellys2, $15
- Definitely Maybe (Oasis)
I hate their attitude but their music was good (Notice past tense!)
Kellys2, $15
- Morning Glory (Oasis)
Fave tracks: Wonderwall, Hello? She's Electric, Hey Now, Don't Look Back in Anger.
trade, $6.50
- II (PUSA)
Why did they split up after only 2 albums?!?!?!?! I thought they were so cool. And a fantastic band to see live. Damnit! Fave tracks: Volcano, Mach 5, Bug City (cute song!), Ladies and Gentlemen.
Lawsons, $18
- Unit (Regurgitator)
Wow! A great album! Lots of energy and a lot of fun. Their snese of humour shines through. Fave tracks: I Like Your Old Stuff Better Than Your New Stuff (well I like their old stuff and their new stuff!), Everyday Formula, Black Bugs, World of Sleaze, Polyester Girl, Modern Life. Standout track: ! (Song Formerly Known As). One of my fave songs for 1998!!! Plus I love the video clip too. That's the one filmed in Tokyo-looks like Akihabara?
Kellys, $20 (see I didn't wait for the price to go down!!)
- In It For the Money (Supergrass)
The munchkin-like band. Generally, I liked their first album more because it was more silly and fun. Fave tracks: Tonight, In It for the Money, Richard III, G Song, Late in the Day.
Joes CDs (New York), US$9.99
- Fuzzy Logic (Super Furry Animals)
British band. Strange cover concept. I have no idea who the photo is of. Looks like a criminal?! Fave tracks: God!Show Me Magic, Frisbee. Standout tracks: Something 4 the Weekend.
Tower Records (San Francisco), US$14 (with $3 off voucher!)
- Past Masters Volume 1 (The Beatles)
The more 'please the fans' songs-happy-healthy-youthful stage in their careers. Fave tracks: From Me To You, I Feel Fine, I'll Get You.
Kellys1, $16
- Be Here Now (Oasis)
I haven't listened to this properly not even once! I just can't be bothered so I have no idea if it's any good or not. All the songs are too long and winded!
Joes Cds (New York), US$9.99
- TEN (Pearl Jam)
Interesting how it folds out into a poster. Fave tracks: Once, Even Flow. They look like something out of 21 Jump Street!
Time Warp, $13.95 (30% off)
- Red (Beatles)
The ahppy times double collection. Fave tracks: Please Please Me, And I Love Her, Paperback Writer. But most of it is good! You get the lyrics!
Lawsons, $35 (not cheap!)
- Blue (Beatles)
The more experimental period. I like the concept of the covers-you can see how theyve changd and all. You get the lyrics! Fave tracks: Strawberry Fields, A Day in the Life (strange and surrealistic lyrics), Hello Goodbye, Fool on the Hill, Magical Mystery Tour (weird and wonderful).
Latest acquisitions!

12/8/00 Kellys1, $18 (new cd)
- The Man Who (Travis)
Didn't know any of the songs but everyone said they're cool! Um, they're not that good looking are they? Sound a bit like Radiohead. Fave tracks:Driftwood, Turn, Why Does It Always Rain On Me? (sounds like he should be saying "rain down on me..." or is that just me?).

26/8/00 Zoom, $18.
- Triple J Hottest 100 Vol. 7
Cool! This is a lot better than Vol. 6 cos I had so many of the songd already on the last one, which made it boring. I think this one has a good cross section. - Hand on the torch (US3)
Basically the only song I knew was "Cantaloop" whish is by far the best track by them to date! Love the intro bit where the guy um, intrduces the song. hehe. The rest of the album is pretty darn cool. Mix of rap/jazz/funk/r&b. Samples and mixes and scratches. Similar to Fatboy Slim and Moby I guess.
SOUNDTRACKS
- Oliver!
haha. I love this movie! The songs are better with the cheruby dancing kiddies tho'.
- West Side Story
The songs are better than the movie itself. I love the dance sequences! Fave tracks:
- Swingers Too
The "sequel" to the original Swingers soundtrack. Has some more tracks from the film that they couldn't fit on the first one! Also extra tracks in the same style. It's pretty cool!
