Real World News
German minister marries partner

In what the German newsweekly Focus says is a first in the country, a pastor in Hamburg has married his partner in a civil ceremony. Reiner Jarchow, 57, an evangelist minister, married an unidentified 28-year-old student at the town hall in Eimbuettel, a district of Hamburg. The city-state last April passed legislation recognizing same-sex unions but did not grant them any legal rights.

PV Cyber Pride '99
By Bille

A year ago Pink Village was host to this century's very first Pride Festival taking place in a virtual reality environment. October 23rd-24th we will be hosting what will most likely be the very last virtual Pride of this millennium! Get ready for PV Cyber Pride '99!

This far the Pride Committee members are Idealist and Bille, but we are hoping that at least one more PV citizen want to join us in planning out the main lines of this huge event. But we also need your help even if you hesitate joining the committee, as individuals can be PV's official host to specific events, or be in charge of certain matters like the booths in Pride Park, prizes, advertising or whatever. Maybe you would like to share some ideas or comments.

We look forward to preparing a great Pride with lots of fun and events for all who attend. Remember, besides having fun, this Pride is a nice way of showing people out there that it's not dangerous to mingle with gays and lesbians:)

Here's how you can contribute:

  • 3rd member of the PV Cyber Pride '99 Committee
  • Assistant on specific, less time consuming occasions
  • Suggest events or even ideas for event details, effects etc.
  • We are building a long mailing list of ppl who we think might be interested to know when the Pride web page is ready. If you know anyone that should be added, mail us their nick/name and e-mail address (they will receive only 2 mails from us, but can subscribe to the official PV Cyber Pride '99 mailing list if they like to get more info. Let's drag our RL friends over here!:)
  • Suggest communities/web sites/services etc. to whom we can offer a booth in the Pride Park area. Mainly g/l/b/t related, but also gay friendly AW communities can be suggested.
  • Suggest prizes and who we can ask to donate them. In return they will have their  logo/web link in the Pride Park as well as on the Pride web page, eventually even a booth.
  • If you attended last year's pride, what do you think was good, what was bad?
All of the above we would like to know before Sept 26th. If you like to join the committee, we need to know no later than Sept 19th. E-mail addresses can be found on top of this page.

PS: input is appreciated also from Pink Point readers who are not registered as citizens or friends of Pink Village.

Any Angels Out There?
By Idealist

We are here, we are Queer, and sometimes we are even Angelic!

Do you like to meet new people, and help others?  If so, we want YOU to join Pink Angels! The purpose of Pink Angels is

1) to serve as contact persons for the newcomers and visitors to Pink Village

2) to give guided tours of PV, and show new people around (you don't have to be extremely familiar with PV to do this -- you can show others the places you know -- and you can give tours at your own convenience)

3) to help PV newcomers an visitors with the AW browser (how to move, teleport, use the contact list, etc.) if they are also new to or inexperienced with Active Worlds as a whole.

Logo by IdealistIf you volunteer to become a Pink Angel, your AW nickname and your email address will be posted on Pink Angels web page, as well as on some boards around Pink Village.

Current members are the PV Councillors. Pink Angels currently have a web page at http://www.fortunecity.com/village/radclyffe/54/pa.htm , but if you'd like to take over the administration of the page, please contact me (Idealist; riia@ix.netcom.com) and let me know.  If noone else would like to be in charge of the web page, I will do that, at least initially; you can still volunteer to be one of the Angels.

Show your community spirit and support, and join today! :)

Your Personal Ads in PV
By Bille

Since PV was founded 2,5 years ago each citizen has been in charge of a set of 3 billboards for personal advertising at squares both in the Outland and on the Island. But - nobody has ever used their boards.

Why would you be interested in such advertising? To tell others where to find your PV buildings, of course! Or to lead visitors to your personal web page. Or - simply to upload a cool picture for pure decoration...

How does this work? You simply create a JPG no larger than 25K, rather of horizontal format, and upload it to the web. Then you run off to Press Ltd's office at Trans Road to fill in your order. When the url to your JPG, the description and the action line is known, those will be added to 3 billboards located at different PV squares - 1 of these will be along Pink Avenue on Pink Island.

You will be able to update your advertisement by uploading a JPG update. If the action or description changes, you must submit a new order. To avoid such extra orders, you could make sure that your JPG also shows the coords.

Pink Focus:  Eljay
By Idealist

Next several issues of PP will introduce various Pink Village citizens to the Pink Point readers.  First one in focus is one of the first citizens of Pink Village, who is also a PV Council member.

Eljay (whose real world initials are LJ) is a 40 year old Australian male.  He is happily involved with his partner of 3 years (Warren),  with whom he lives in Adelaide, Australia.  They have 3 children (who live with their mother 1500 km away) aged 17,16, & 9, and 1 child who lives with Eljay and Warren. The child is a 1-year-old German Shepherd/Blue Heeler/Kelpie/Corgie cross, (and yes, that does make him a strange looking beast) who answers to the name ‘Spock’.

Click here to find out about Eljay's thoughts about Pink Village and AW.

Any comments or contributions to Pink Point,
especially gay/lesbian- and Pink Village related stuff,
are highly appreciated!
