Hollywood CA 1988

It was by pure chance that Denise and I heard that morning on KROQ that Duran Duran were going to give a free concert that afternoon. Of course we both grew very exited and went to beg Mom to not only let us get out of school, but to drive us to the show as well. But Mom didn't want us to go. We had done something, I don't remember what it was now, and we were forced to go to school dejected.
Denise and I discussed it together at school...we decided that we HAD to find a way to go to that show. It was Duran after all. So, at lunch, we both nearly ran the short distance back home. We begged and begged, and finally, with me nearly in tears, Mom relented and said we could go. But, she said that it would be the last Duran Duran show for that year. We aggreed, thinking that Duran would not come that way again anyway.
We got there and waited in line. When they finally opened the gates, we ran towards the front. We ended up right in the center, but with everyone pushing, we ended up finally on the left side around the first and second rows. Mom did not join us inside, but she waited on the outside with the camera.
I don't remember much about this show actually. I remember Simon's straggly hair, and bright orange jacket, and afterwards I remember searching for one just like it. John looked way too thin and totally unhealthy. Denise kept getting mad because John kept blocking her view of Nick. And of course we were right in front of the speakers too, which didn't help the view. But I saw my Simon, and that was good enough for me. I wish I could remember the set list. I know they did I DON'T WANT YOUR LOVE, and I believe ALL SHE WANTS IS? I'm not sure about the rest!
Below is the only photo actually of Duran Duran that came out of that roll that was nearly finished before we even went to the show. Mom of course took that one. And she saw them exit, which I didn't because I had thought that I had broken my finger, so security had pulled me over the little fence to check it out. I was fine, but didn't get taken backstage like I was hoping I would be. Darn it...maybe next time.
