And the worst part was that there was no MTV available yet! YIPES! When Liberty came out, Denise and I waited patiently for a tour...but nothing! It was really hard for us to find anything that even played Duran Duran or mentioned them at all. We thought we were in the middle of nowhereland...and we probably were! Finally we found a radio station from Sacramento (We didn't get it in very well, but thought-it played something other than country or who knows what, so that was better than nothing!) that played Duran, and the best part was that they were coming to Sacramento. Not only that, but they were giving away the TOUR SAMPLER and a chance to be backstage and onstage with Duran. Denise and I called at every opportunity, always being the caller before or after, until finally I got through! It was a good thing too, because I found out later that we were calling long distance at that time! Umm....ooops! Well it was all for Duran Duran, so it was worth it! I won the CD, but not the GRAND PRIZE in the end. And Mom was totally great about the whole thing too, driving 2 hours up and back to get us there. It was 2 days after my birthday too, so our family gave us money to spend there too. Okay, we get to the concert, buy a ton of stuff, and get to our seats. Then I found out that I lost one of my shirts on the way inside, so I was kinda bummed! We find out that our seats aren't on the wide grass, but above. But we see these people who have GRASS area, but want seats, so instantly we trade. Denise and I manuver our way towards the front and stay that way until Duran come on...then I nearly passed out from being shoved and pushed around from people trying to push forward, so we had to move back. I was so MAD I nearly cried right then, especially since we would've been right between Simon and Nick, nearly in the front row. Denise seeing Nick with those portable keyboards was a real moment for her, and me seeing Simon in those WHITE SHORTS during WILD BOYS made my night. Their whole set was amazing, except I kept trying to figure out why they brought Nick out in a wheelchair and rolled Simon on a gurney! We really liked the lip couch, and the set that went into the rafters! They did do Come Undone, and it nearly made me sit on the floor and cry because it was so amazing. Mom came and picked us up after the show was over, since she had decided that she was NOT going to wait in the car this time around, but go to dinner instead. On the way home, I could hardly hear anything but this great ringing in my ears because we were right near those HUGE (and I mean BIG) speakers again, but it was well worth every moment. Let's just call it one of the best birthday presents I ever got...a night with Simon in front of me. |
