Spreckles Theatre - San Diego CA 1997

Living in San Diego was hard financially Duran-wise. Before this, our Mom always bought the tickets for us and drove us, but now we had to make it work on our own. We spent alot of time listening to our Duran CD's between Duran tours. But strangely, one day by freakish chance, we were listening to a radio station when we heard that Duran were coming to San Diego. Of course we had to wait until we got paid, but in the meantime, I was very happy at work.

I went to get the tickets, only to find out that they were sold out. I was devestated, and then I had to go to work the day I found out. I thought honestly that I would end up walking out of work that day. As it was, I kept breaking down in tears every once in a while. It was torture. I was cursing my rotten luck...and how unfair things were. I was in a horrible mood...and I stayed that way too...up until the day before the concert. Then they announced that they were going to have a drawing to win Duran tickets. We drove downtown, and we are the last ones to win the tickets and the shirts to wear to try and get an upgrade in seats. WHAT LUCK! I was so exited! I thought we were going to be doomed not to go, but WOOOHOO!! I had to call Mom right away and stop by my friends house to tell her too...And still another day away! It was hard sleeping let me tell you!

The next night, we get to Spreckles, and find out that our seats are awful. I mean it was so much at the top that Duran would have looked soo small from up there! As it was, we saw the opening act, which I don't remember who it was at that time, and they were tiny! After they went off they started to setup Duran's stuff. I was really kinda bummed out, because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to see Simon that well, but I guess it was just amazing that we were there right? But, as chance would have it, the people from the radio station we won the tickets from found us, and told us that they didn't have any front row seats left, but would we take some closer ones anyway? WERE THEY KIDDING?! Any chance to be closer to my MAN and our BOYS...well we jumped at the chance. And this was right before Duran came on too, so we didn't miss anything.

They were in fabulous form as usual. Among others, they played SECRET OKTOBER and it was beautiful...and BE MY ICON, in which Simon was making these great faces. What an actor my man is lol! It was really a fantastic song to hear live! What a night! It was truely amazing that we were even there. But the fates must have been sympathetic to our cause, because there we were, and it kept my spirits up at work for a while after that too.
