Result : 6 - Innovative 1st person shooter.
MDK, originally known as Murder-Death-Kill, this game has you dropping from space and using your special suit to intercept enemy space-craft in low orbit. It also has a funky Spawn-like glider/wings mode, and integral sniper scope. It isn't your usual 1st person shooter, with much of the action taking place using your scope and the many different types of ammunition you pickup to use in your gun. It has slips into a platformer, and then bounces back to a frenzied fragfest. The backgrounds and levels are unusual to say the least. At times looking a bit warped or twisted, and at the same time looking very cinematic and scenic. The blend is a little disconcerting at first, and I cannot really relate it to any other sort of game, must be seen to be experienced. Sound is above average, but again it is quite variable, often at the same time it will seem innovative and crudely implemented. Not that either the sound of graphics are, just the strange Dali-esque style can be both at once.... hmmm, that sure cleared things up. Anyway, it is a different slant on shooters of this type, and daring to be different can be both rewarding and frustrating. It just dosen't excite quite enough, the Doom bits are not frantic enough, and you can't really play at being a sniper either. I think both of these could have been fixed with better level design. Interesting but not great.
