The Three Lions came out about the same time as the 98 World Cup.  The market was flooded with soccer games at this time, and I think this was one of the better ones.   Pace was about right, and the shooting system, where you had to do the aiming, was novel.  This feature made it for me, nothing like knowing exactly where in the goalmouth you where going for.  I hope some other games pick up on this idea, as the normal method just lacks something.  I think because it put more emphasis on scoring, after the effort of getting the ball up there, it made the whole experience seem more plausible.

Sure the graphics are not as pretty as some, but the feel of the game was good.   Sound was kinda average, I liked the crowd chanting, which, I was told, was sampled from real crowds.

Some soccer games feel too generic, move a human from one end of a field to another, whilst avoiding other humans, and click a button when a certain distance from the end to get points.  It could be basketball, soccer, or rugby.  The Three Lions felt like soccer.
