Day 21- Analipsi, CreteMonday, June 2, 1997A day of pure relaxation. A quiet breakfast in the room. CRACK! The coffee pot cracked and broke, spilling hot coffee all over the stove. No Pyrex in Kriti! The thing is, we had already turned in our first coffee pot the first day, because it had a crack in it.Dad went off on his tour of Koufonisus Island, and I headed for the pool, where I spent the better part of the day. I had an awesome ice cream thing. Like a revel. But it's actually Vienetta on a stick! Awesome! Phoned home at 4:40 (7:40 AM home-time). It was so GREAT to talk to the kids!! Greg was in the shower, but I sent my love. Tonight is the drink all you can Raki night and BBQ. We went down to check it out (8:30 PM) but the music was pretty loud and we figured Dad wouldn't hear too much conversation. The BBQ would probably be about 10:00 PM, so we decided to pass. Dad had his gyro pita thing and beer, and I had a cherry dixie cup ice cream to go. It's 10:40 now, the music seems to be louder, and there's lots of laughing and clapping, so the Raki must be going down pretty well. My boat trip was good. There were about 18 of us, an hour's trip to this deserted island. Nice sand beach. I went walking up the dunes and then up a small mountain. Near the TOP it was almost solid sea shells from before the earthquakes. I picked a few to bring to the kids. I went snorkeling, but the tube was no good and I kept getting a mouthful of water. One of the boat crew went out with a snorkel and spear gun and got an octopus. Neat. Left the island at 4:00 PM and Sue was waiting when I arrived back. Dad said that when the guy speared the octopus he brought it to the rocks, where he started throwing it against the rocks, and beating it. Then he'd clean it and let it sit for a while, then he'd throw it again, clean it, let it sit. He did this over and over for more than an hour. To tenderize it, I guess.
