Day 25 - Crete and Naxos

June 6, 1997

Moving Day. Sad to leave this place, but we have to pull up stakes a day early, as no boats leave Crete on Saturday except Express to Pireaus, and we're not ready to go home. Naxos bound.

Caught the bus to Ierapetra, and from there to Heraklion. Stashed our luggage and went to find the square where Dad had sat until he saw someone he knew - and saw Victor, his tour guide in Turkey. After one wrong turn we found the spot. Had some dolmades (stuffed vine leaves). Boarded the El Greco shortly after 4:00, although she didn't leave until 7:30. No real place to stretch out on this boat, and they didn't have all the areas open. Turns out this particular "night boat" is mostly cabins. So the lounge areas are made for sitting up, not dozing. Met a couple of very nice people - one couple from Crete, going to Paros, a Greek lady from New York who had been home visiting with relatives, and a fella from Australia who sat with Dad out on the deck most of the evening.

Got into Naxos about 2:15 AM and were settled in about 3:00 AM. We're in the ground level unit beside Nick and Anna, but they're not back yet from Athens. Good to be back. Almost feels like home. Well, not quite.
