Day 5 - Athens

May 17, 1997

Up with the birds, 6:20 AM, headed for coffee and a cheese thing by 7:00 AM, and then on to the "Plaka". This is a huge area, blocks and blocks of little shops. Everything from leathers (purses/sandals) to touristy stuff, to sponges! I had a WONDERFUL time...Shopping, and shopping.

Dad decided to make a "dry-run" to Pireaus, while I continued on. We met back 2 hours later. Looks like our first island stop will be Syros. Our hotel guy says it's his favorite, and its a 4 1/2 hr ride. Sounds good.

We decided to make a hotel reservation for our return to Athens. Might try Hotel Adonis. Lunch first. The restaurant hustlers hooked us in. I had Greek salad and Dad had mystery meat. Then more walking/shopping. The Adonis Hotel wants more money than we want to pay, (although it will be high season when we get back.) He wants 10,000 drachmas, and we are paying 6,500 at Tempi. (That's about $35.00 Canadian). So, I guess we go back to Tempi, if we can find it. The streets are Very Confusing!

Hey, I got kissed by a Greek today! (no explanation required) Dad ordered ice cold beer and got a beer and a glass of ice. Go figure. About 7:00 PM I went down to a little mini-market, bought some bread and feta for supper. We stayed up until 9:45!
