Day 26 - Chora, NaxosSaturday, June 7, 1997Woke up late, for us that is, about 8:30. Sue was still making Z's so I went to the mini market and bakery to get fresh bread, fruit, yogurt etc. She was up when I got back. We walked to town and got info on travel to Athens. We will leave Wednesday morning at 10:45, a 6 hr trip. Did some shoping. I bought a set of Worry Beads. Actually they are muslim prayer beads. We found a sweatshirt for Bob. Sue had picked it out when we were in Athens, but this one says Naxos on it. Bought a Scratch and Lose ticket and Sue had a milkshake. Got back in time to see the prime studio (the one upstairs from us where we stayed last time) being rented out to two ladies. We think that if we had stayed home we could have moved up. Oh well. Our place is OK. I think we have been getting spoiled.I read and napped and Sue went to the beach. About 4:00 I went down just as she was coming back. I stayed for 1/2 hour or so and she came back, shopped for groceries and showered. Going to have supper in tonight and early bed. Still a bit wasted from the trip from Crete to here. We have wallpaper in our kitchen! Our kitchen is a little nook and the wallpaper is just one strip stuck on horizontally in a chunk as far as it would go around. About 2 1/2 feet short of the edge. Another Greek-ism: Saw a No Parking sign today painted on the asphalt. The guy had carefully counted out how many letters there are in Parking (7). Then he painted 7 squares on the pavement - one for each letter to go inside. Then he painted N-O-P-A-R-K-I and ran out of squares. He had forgotten to account for the word NO. So instead of painting 2 more squares, he just left it like that. Funny. Dad had seen a similar thing the other day. They paint the grout around stones in the sidewalk to make it look nicer - and it does, but this guy had been painting, and there was a bag of sand just leaning against the wall. So instead of lifting the bag, and painting the stones that were underneath it, he just followed the outline around the outside of the bag! This sign is in our kitchen: "No waste of water so as to have it day in day out all the year round" In the Beginning| 1 Toronto| 2 Toronto| 3/4 Athens| 5 Athens| 6 Syros| 7 Syros| 8 Syros| 9 Naxos| 10 Naxos| 11 Naxos| 12Naxos| 13 Naxos/Delos/Mykonos| 14 Naxos| 15 Santorini| 16 Santorini| 17 Santorini| 18 Santorini| 19 Crete| 20 Crete| 21 Crete| 22 Crete| 23 Crete| 24 Crete| 25 Crete/Naxos| 26 Naxos| 27 Naxos| 28 Naxos| 29 Naxos| 30 Athens| 31 Athens| 32 Toronto| 33 Toronto| 34 Niagra Falls| 35 Toronto|
