Betrayed by a Friend

I welcomed her into my heart and my home
A sad and lost woman who hurt to the bone

She wanted to die, I begged her to live
I gave her everything I had to give

At night she wanted to stay up to talk
By day I was so tired I hardly could walk

The more that I gave the more she demanded
I know I did everything that she commanded

Three years of this torture was all I could take
I had to give up for my own health’s sake

I thought what she wanted was to have a good friend
But hard as I tried I knew it would end

When I told her that I'd had enough
She told me I never had the right stuff

Friendship is something I value a lot
Please do not take more than what I have got.
