  What Children Tel Us

What children can tell us,
If we look in their eyes,
Is whether they are happy,
and feeling loved.

The eyes do not hide,
What the words cannot say,
They mirror the feelings,
Hidden below.

Darting, shaded evasive eyes,
Insecurity, downcast looks,
Vacant, unfocused,
No glimmer of soul.

Inside just an empty hole
Look in their eyes,
It’s in faces you’ll see
Their sadness and pain,

Look in their eyes
They’re all the same
Buried inside is a child
so sad.
