P.A.L.S.
Meeting
4-15-01
Forgive me, PALS, for I am (way) behind on minutes. My last document was in March. I promise to do better in the future. What is my penance? I suppose it is to continue to take the minutes!
We met in April for Rhondas meeting. We gathered at the Port of Hamburg, with Rhonda coming straight from the airport. Jan Kerber was guest this meeting. There were not many people at the bar but those few had control of the music. We solved that problem right away by bogarting the juke box. We were lucky to have the owner of the "Port" be our beer guide. Borkhard taught us much about German beer that evening. He has owned and operated the "Port" for 23 years. His daughter Heidi helps with the bartending (she is NOT blonde, nor does she wear any "traditional" clothing).
We began with an Octoberfest "Fest bier" by Hauf Brau, Munich, brewed amber, but darkened for export to the States. When Jan remarked she enjoyed the beer, as different as it was from her regular fare, Coors Lite, Borkhard exclaimed, "Coors Lite is NOT beer". He went on to tell us that most macros add foaming agents, like egg whites. Borkhard taught us his version of the brewer names, Schmiller, Poops, Old Stool, and Buschveiser. Borkhard has the German connection for beer, and "it is plugged in".
We also sampled a Bitburger, "Holiday Fest", which was quite tasty. Borkhard told us that beer club was "bloody marvelous". That was before a few of the members got out of control and were throwing popcorn all around. He was probably calling us bloody bitches the next day, as he vacuumed the mess. I recall our guest was one of those letting loose, so for her reprimand we made her a beer club member! A salute was made, and she committed. Pass the BOOT! We had several rounds of the boot, some of us also wearing the swill, since Joan wouldnt let us drink out of it the correct way. We sampled a Wiess, Weisenbach, and another Erdinger. We were not sampling the Mai Bock (aka Mind Block), because we were no longer able to tell the difference in the beers! Borkhard (aka Workhard) helped us truly appreciate the German brew. He said we are traveling in the "direction of perfection" by drinking from his taps.
My notes get a little hazy in some parts, but I do remember we dubbed Heidi "Arnold Shitspanker" aka "Brutus Schniffinger" (wonder what she was doing?). Someone made a reference in my book that I was going to hell in an Easter basket maybe thats my penance.
It was decided later (not THAT evening) that we would begin the next round for the month of May, and have the field trip in June.
Next meeting: May 18. 2001
HOST MARIANA
See you then.
Respectfully submitted,
Mariana
