      P.A.L.S. MEETING

1-25-03

Present: Joan, Lisa, Denise, Heidi, and Mariana

The gals were back together, ratin’ and rollin’. What a great way to break the winter doldrums – beer and women and a few snacks. Heidi had several choices of new brews, including an interesting Italian beer from a microbrewery right here in Wisconsin. The evening samples included a gift of Vermont specialty suds sent compliments of my sister Joan. We thank the New Hampshire gal and look forward to having her at club again sometime. We rarely get samples of microbrews from that part of the country, so it was a nice opportunity.

As usual, there was much catching up to do, sharing of good news and sad news, daily grinds, and blessings, of course. Life can be such a struggle, and then such a wonder. Like bread…like bread dough, waiting to rise (remember, "who’s that behind me?"). Wouldn’t you love to just punch it down sometimes? Like that is remotely possible! And speaking of remotes, just how many can one have? Joan had us wondering how do you know which one is for what. And it all goes back to wonder, like the bread…like the bread dough, waiting to rise. Man, it’s so great to laugh, so rejuvenating! And can you believe we mostly laugh at ourselves, our lives!? Where have the years gone? Oh well, it’s not like we’re grannies or anything. Oh yeah, Joan is a granny! (Couldn’t help myself Joan, sorry. Actually I know you are thrilled to have the grandbaby.)

We did discuss the possibility of a field trip, someplace different this time. An overnighter is always a good time. Denise and I did some research and will try to bring it to the next meeting. Some good events are coming up pretty quick, and then there’s not a lot until later in spring. The local "Blessing of the Bock" could be good fun, not necessarily an overnighter, but sounds fun. The next date for club was uncertain at that time, but we have decided on a Sunday afternoon meeting for more homebrewing experience!

Next meeting – February 16th, Sunday, 1:00pm

HOST – LISA

Due to the prep and follow up to homebrewing, Lisa has requested that we assist in the bottle prep by taking some home to clean and remove labels. Our help is greatly appreciated.

Respectfully submitted,
Mariana

Quaff Quotes (from 365 Bottles of Beer for the Year Calendar):
"I recommend bread, meat, vegetables, and beer."      -Sophocles

"Most people hate the taste of beer – to begin with. It is, however, a prejudice that
many people have been able to overcome."      -Winston Churchill

           PS. HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!
