P.A.L.S. MINUTES
3-23-01

The meeting had a bit of an Irish flavor to it, not to mention a bit of the wearing of the green. All except Denise, who really stretched it saying her eye color was her green. She really was supposed to bare it, but we let her off the hook. We had a couple of Irish appetizers, and some favorable Irish beer selections. Unfortunately, I had to forfeit the majority of my portions since I had a serious working morning on Saturday (not that Joan’s working isn’t serious). It’s just that I would be more likely to offend those working beside me.

All members were present, including "in situ" Rhonda. There was much to be discussed and there was actually more talking than tasting and rating going on. There is no better club than one that survives on talking and drinking – a woman’s dream-come-true. Watch out, though. I’ve heard that unusual side effects can occur. Luckily we have several members who work in the medical field to help out. And Heidi is always good for a good boob job, oops, I mean, boob story. Nowhere else will you learn about her "daughter", and other bizarre happenings like "breast farts". Of course we all know about queafs, but this is a new one!

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!

From "The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Beer" –

"Folks in Ireland have raised barley for about 5,000 years, and history shows the Celts have been making beer since the Bronze Age*. As in England, the church was in charge of brewing up until the 1600’s. St. Patrick was said to employ his own personal brewer. Although beer wasn’t quite as popular as whiskey when Arthur Guinness started making beer at St. James Gate in Dublin in 1759, a new era of Irish brewing was born. Guinness ale swept through the Emerald Isle and England as well. The brewery invented Guinness Extra Stout in 1820 and the rest, as they say, is history. By 1914, the Guinness brewery was the largest in the world. Although it has been dwarfed in modern times by megaliths such as Coors, Guinness is still the largest stout brewery in the world."

Next meeting: Port of Hamburg (next to Landmark) ***NOTE THE CHANGE!!***

6:30pm

HOST – RHONDA

Easy to transport appetizers welcome (please, none that have to be heated).

Respectfully submitted,

Mariana

*For extra credit, when is the ‘bronze age’?
