P.A.L.S. Meeting
7-28-00

A cool autumn-like breeze kept the mosquitoes at bay as we sat in Joan’s backyard for this July meeting of P.A.L.S.  The timing was perfect as it enabled us to have a repeat guest member, BVIer and Californian Rhonda, and a special out-of-town guest member, Carrie.  We sure hope Joan’s neighbors are forgiving because we tended to be quite raucous and obscene (maybe THAT helped keep the mosquitoes away, too).  However, some of us were more obscene than others!  Heidi was dropping “F” bombs, while Joan confessed she bombed with the ”bomb”.  The meeting began late because of tardy members, although those on time got a bit of a head start.  The latecomers, on the other hand, had a head start of their own!  The evening was a blast and one not soon forgotten.  For this meeting, our ratings were based on a total of 35 because there were 2 guest members.  Note however, that 2 of the beers rated are on a scale of 30 total as we lost a member, not quite missing in action but rather retired for the evening.  The meeting accomplished the task of rating the beers despite the distraction of the intense jocularity.  I will say it again, old friends are the greatest!  And I don’t mean old as in old.   It was wonderful to have our out of town friends with us, to reminisce and to renew.  Thanks for being part of our club!

Here is a beer lesson for you to review:
All beer contains

-         either an ale yeast or lager yeast (or occasionally a wild yeast)
-         a unique color, ranging from pale straw to gold, amber, copper, brown, or black
-         a specific degree of malt flavor and sweetness
-         a specific degree of hop bitterness and hop aroma or bouquet.

Keep this in mind as you imbibe the next time.

Next meeting date: August 20, 2000
Time:  To be decided by Lisa (afternoon-ish)
Place: South Milwaukee Yacht Club

We are fortunate to have been invited by Lisa and Rick for a Sunday outing on the Jenna Marie.  We will boat to downtown and dock for a draft at whatever pub or brewhaus suits our fancy.  Guys are welcome!

Keep the following dates in mind:

September 15, (Friday) – field trip to Septembeerfest
Oak Creek Community Center, we’ll do dinner before (?)
October – Mariana; November – Denise; December – Round Robin (plan date in Oct);  January – Heidi; February – Lisa; March – Joan; April – next field trip (road trip?)

Respectfully submitted,

Mariana            (my finger is slowly recovering after its ‘smashing’ good time that evening…thanks for being my nurse Denise!)
